    Default Cable Tranny Tension

    Sup, fellas. I have a 92 Integra and I recently installed another tranny. I went with a XTD Stage 3 clutch and 8lb flywheel from a Exedy Stage 1 clutch on the stock flywheel. The Haynes manual says to have something like 19/35 inch play in the cable. Would this be different with me using a stage 3 set up? I don't want to have it too tight and snap the cable. Oh and one more thing I didn't know the flywheel had to be surfaced until mid way of my break in. I babied it well after 450 miles and one instance got on it after that to see what it would do shifting into 2nd @ about 6g's and it slipped pretty good. It's been right at a 1000 miles now and it's slipped then since. The Exedy would bite in 2nd and 3rd, the XTD dosen't, it pulls without the bite better but I've experienced slippage twice. Is it cable adjustment or the surfacing. Thanks for your help.

    since the flywheel was brand new it shouldn't have needed to be resurfaced however you should always clean them with brake cleaner before installation... most likely you glazed the surface of the clutch disc because you did not properly break it in if the flywheel was clean and brand new when installed... the clutch cable will not be so tight that it will snap... it will just get so tight that the clutch is always disengaged or partially disengaged...

    double check the clutch cable, and describe your clutch and flywheel more.. itll help us all help you better

    a friend of mine put a stage 2 XTD clutch in his 240 and it is slipping like a mother when it gets warmed up but when cold it grabs...i think its just that its a cheap clutch. i have a oe replacement exedy and love it, unless i boost my car i will always use it again.

    EDIT: he also broke it in properly and after about 1k miles it started slipping.

    if the clutch grabs late you will need to tighten it more and it its too tight you will feel that the clutch pedal cant be pushed down all of the way anymore, and dont force the clutch pedal when it gets too hard cause you will snap the cable or bend the arm of the trans....when i did the clutch the first time i had it too tight and bend the loop thing on the arm that comes out of the transmission.

    I preciate your help. I pratically bathed the flywheel and pressure plate with brake clean to assure nothing would go wrong. And I agree, GermanMuscle that the clutch is cheap. I was just giving another product a try that was at a good price, I mean $250 for a clutch, pressire plate, flywheel, and throw out bearing, I should of guessed you get what you pay for. I adjusted the cable with just a little play like 4 or 5 millimeters and the response is better. Thank all of yall again. Exedey will definately be my weapon of choice.
