    Default Failed Emissions Help; Pt.2

    Alright, so I've failed the emissions test about 13 times now.
    Since the first test I've failed, my friend and I took the following steps to try and rectify the situation;

    -Took apart the EGR system and soaked it with Sea Foam Deep Creep in hopes that it would unstick the valve in the EGR system if it were clogged. Upon visual inspection of EGR system, it did not appear to be clogged.
    --The car failed after this.

    -Bought a new "High Flow" Catalytic Converter, and had it installed.
    --The car failed after this.

    -Drove around for about 100 miles to break in the new cat.
    --The car failed after this.

    -Bought a new gas cap, because the last on failed.
    --The car still failed, but that had nothing to do with this.

    -Retarded the ignition timing in 5 degree intervals, and had the car tested in between tests.
    --The car still failed after this.
    (After putting the timing back to nearly stock, the emissions dropped significantly to within passing in the 15mph test, but still failed the 25mph test.)

    -Bought a bottle of "Guaranteed to Pass" Emissions ****. Since I was a sucker, I fell for the advertising and decided to throw my recipt away, thinking that I was guaranteed to pass.
    --I failed emissions, and then I did not receive double my money back.

    So suggestions anyone? The N0x is about 2000 ppm out of I believe a required 1500 ppm for the 25mph test. I've tried nearly everything to go about this in a legitimate fashion. Sadly if I would have saved the money I spent on a ****ing Catalytic Converter, and having it installed; I could have just paid off some dude to forge the papers for a lot less, and still had money in my pocket.

    Additional Info:
    The car has an intake, and header. But neither bypass any emissions equipment. The 4AG does not have a pre-cat in it's stock exhaust manifold, so I don't think that the addition of a header would alter the emissions, especially considering that it was designed to be hooked up to my EGR system.

    Define Tune Up.

    I replaced the water pump a few months back which required me to take off the timing belt. Unfortunately it was only after this that we realized that my Crank Pulley is so beat up that there are no longer any timing marks on it.

    I reset the timing about 20 or 30 times using a long straw placed into spark plug hole of cylinder 1. After it got to just past TDC, I set the cam timing, and took it for a spin, and the car ran like it never has before. I don't assume it would be possible for me to really advance the cam timing, without having adjustable cam gears, as anything more, or less than even a tooth causes the car to run much worse than it does now.

    We Sea Foamed the intake manifold, fuel injectors, and crank case two or three times; and after all of this I changed the oil, and oil filter back to the regular Mobil 1 Synthetic.

    High flow convertors are garbage when it comes to emissions!!!! Get a OEM !!

    Eh... I had OEM, but apparently it cracked into 4ths a few mountian runs ago.

    The car is a 1986 Toyota Corolla GT-S.

    but to help you out I need to know what kind type of car you got, also a copy of the tes i want to see the actual test!!

    Oh ok, Pm I have a number ,address you can go to an they can help you get it to pass, cost like 100 an they will pass it, legally

    In tune up, I meant the spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, distributor cap. pcv valve and etc. On mine when they advanced the timing, the techs had to adjust the timing on the ignition side(distributor area). How many miles are on the engine btw? This wouldn't happen to be a white corolla, wouldn't it?

    The plugs were changed a while ago, the plug wires are new NGK pieces, and the distributor has never been replaced.

    The fuel filter is forever in jeapordy until I get the rust out of the bottom my gas tank.

    I haven't checked the injectors or valves, but we ran a bunch of Fuel Injector cleaner through it, and the thing runs like a champ at the moment so eh...

    What does adding alcohol to the fuel tank do?

    The only thing I can think of that alcohol would do would be to dissolve stuff in your lines and engine
