Default GKtib's Caddy powered 1948 Chevy Pickup

Just picked it up today... I've had my eye on it for a while. Already got a '68 Caddy 472ci big block (~500 ft/lbs tq!) w/th400 transmission & ford 9 inch rear end. The guy gave me an edelbrock 4 barrel carb, steering column, keg gas tank, and a ton of other extras to go with it. Can't wait to get it done... and for those naysayers out there, i've included a picture of what I'm aiming for as a finished project...

^^ Personally, I kinda like the prowler design, but my disdain for the car as a whole comes from Chrysler/Plymouth completely ignoring the hot rod/rat rod roots with the car... originally, hot rods were created to run illegal (then) alcohol from distillery in the woods to the places that bought it.. the cars needed to be fast, relatively cheap to build, and have space for the contraband moonshine. The prowler is slow, expensive, and not spacious at all. Hot rods/rat rods should be built.. not bought. Someone cruising around in a prowler is someone who doesn't have what it takes to build a car for themselves, generally (at least that's what I think). The design itself was impractical and was what one of my favorite professors at SCAD calls "landfill design". When the prowler was debuted, it was so expensive for the time and such a radical design that it was instantly a novelty. You didn't buy the car to really drive, and there was no drive enjoyment out of it for someone who likes to really push their cars. You couldn't take it tearing down the backroads on the weekends because it was so expensive that you don't wanna scratch the $4000 purple pearl paint on it. You bought it just to say you have one and to drive it on the rare weekend when the temperature and humidity are perfect, the area is secure, and you want to get laid.

The prowler I categorize along with the Chevy SSR... They're both trying really hard to do the whole modern hot rod thing, but they are both lacking. The SSR has the performance, with the LT1 'vette engine in there, but the body is heavy, which sucks power:weight down, and personally, I think the design is boring. The Prowler had an exciting, spiffy design, but it lacks power. Both are ridonkulously overpriced, imho.

KDM Guy - Cool as SHIT project.. I'm jealous. Can't wait to see how she comes out!

Fuck stance. Stance is for kids in skinny jeans with Justin Beiber haircuts. You don't need stance when you got swagger.

I want a want rat rod myself. Just expensive even for a rusted chassis even. I think I'll save a bit more, and pickup one ready to drive. I want a 50's something pickup.

1,500 for the truck, motor/trans... then a couple hundred for a shitload of extras -- so $1,700. not a bad deal, but the cab is rusted to hell.

looks like a nice lil project, but I DESPISE the term 'rat rod'. If you want to be truthful, today's 'rat rods' are the REAL hot rods from back in the day, and these pussy ass boyd coddington style 'hot rods' are street rods.
