It's been going down the crapper...

    Chicken Noodle Soup
    That Lip Gloss Song
    "Soulja Boy"

It's not amusing...I don't know what to say.

I think it's going to level off and slowly die down to just being existent. I "rappers" are reaching for whatever they can now to jet themselves into something original. You heard of the new Bay Area trend with scraper bikes? VIDEO!!! People are running out of ideas and they are getting tired of hearing the same thing over and over again. Half the styles out now are barely considered hip hop. The old cats that brought rap to the mainstream and into the limelight are dropping back out of the light to make way for the new guys. Dre, Quik, Method Man and a few others. Not to mention downloading and it's popularity. No one's really making any money because of downloading. You don't have CDs coming out like you used to see. Now, maybe 2-3 CDs really come out a year when there used to be several a month. Check those words. Later, QD.

QD, your hip-hop knowledge isn't going to do you well for that redneck image you were after...

I'm not really into that hyphy stuff either.

I personally think its going well. All the new hits are mostly hip hop. Many of the artists are doing new things and just playing around with the beats and stuff (listen to Kanye's new song, "Stronger." to get what I'm saying.) It might sound dead but it's still doing it's thing. Not everyone on here will agree with some of the southern stars but shit look at how many fans are on Soulja Boy's nuts. I watched that dude literally go from nothing to something. When he put up that song "Crank Dat Soulja Boy," I was one of the first to have it in my car. I told my friends to watch for him, he's gonna make it sooner. 6 months later, look at him. The point is, it's just taking time and big ideas for artists to blow up and do their thing.

I know, but he has really been just kind of out there here and there. Not full force.

Exactly. That's where most are going. Acting.

Word is, he's falling out. Detox has been rumored to be scrapped for good this time. Personal reasons with wife and family. That's the reason it's been delayed for all these years. Later, QD.

I think AfterMath is really the strongest label out there today.

They have a deep line up.. Preparing for 50's Album to drop.. EVE is out there.. Busta Did OK.. Stat Quo is not doing to well.. Game.. They have some other people too...

    Game will be back...=]

I think Joel Ortiz is the next big thing under AfterMath.. I think they are going to wait for 50's album to drop and makes some noice and then drop Ortiz after it sometime..

You can never go wrong with originality but, there is a thin line between originality & gimmick. Unfortunately, many of the new acts fall under gimmick in my book, ie Soulja Boy & Hurricane Chris. There are very talented artists out there, unfortunately, the powers that be would much rather promote garbage over artists & music with substance. Hopefully things will eventually come full circle & a fresh breath of life will be breathed back into the dying body that is now Hip-Hop

i just hate rap now, cause its all the same.....its ether talking bout fucking some hoe, smoking weed, cusing more in one song then 10 rock cds combined,or gangbanging....its just lame, back in the day rap was good way to let out emotions of what they were going through..now its just overplayed, imo

the way its going right now.. hip hop has no chance on returing back to normal. there is always gonna be a new song with some new steps and rocking... doing weird moves such and two-steping...

As of right now the only rap song i kinda like is "Hood Nigg@ by yung joc". Im not a big fan of rap, so unlike acouple people.. this isn't a big issue for me.

    This is from Crooked I:

"he said dres wife has been telling dre to just stop everything already and that he keeps goin back and fourth about it he said he talked to focus not too long ago and that they scraped detox again and that they are going to start over again and he personally doesnt think it will ever come out because dre has waited way too long"

You never know. Dre hasn't been doing a lot. He's been in and out people's stuff, but he's more outside than in right now. Later, QD.

lol this thread is because rap is not dead people's sense of talent when it comes to rap is dead. i am not not talking about the true rap/hip hop fans, i am talking about the people who hear a song like a beat and have to go buy the cd even if the lyrics make no sense at all ie "lip gloss" and "party like a rockstar". as long as the cds top the charts the labels are going to continue to play on the average person's stupidity.

Albums to check for... The 4th Quarter is actually looking pretty good.

Detox - Pushed back to 08' cause 50 dropping in the 4th quarter
Rakim - Supposed to be dropping the '7th Seal'
Wu-Tang - Dropping a new lp '8th Diagram' pretty soon
Papoose - Nacirema Dream drops in Sept.
Raekwon - Only Built For Cuban Linx Pt.2
Saigon - The Greatest Story Never Told
Kanye - Dropping 'Graduation' 4th quarter

Common's new joint 'Finding Forever' just leaked... I havent heard it but its getting positive feedback.

Flesh Bone gets out of jail in 08' so expect all 5 thugs to do another album together.
