    Default High Mileage motor?

I have a high mileage GSR motor, and I am thinking of putting a turbo kit on it. I will prolly be running low boost with a t4 turbo, I was just wondering if the mileage will hinder the the preformance/saftey of the car, with the turbo on it? If so and I build the motor for the turbo what are some of the prices I'm looking at just for the build and installation of the turbo???

    In the order you asked..
-First thing milage doesnt really matter it is the condition of the motor its.

-low boost and a T4 dont go together , you may have meant a t3/t4 or even a t3 would be fine.

-no the milage wont hinder the performance, but the performance will hinder the mileage. anytime you add boost to a motor you are lessening its life, sometimes more sometimes less. people dont boost a car to drive it easier and extend motor life.

-as far as building the motor you only need to do that if you are wanting to go over the 275-300whp mark. anything below that has been done before safely.

^^^oops Yeah I ment t3\t4 sorry bout that. So under 275hp I would not need to build it? That sounds pretty good to me, do you know what it usaly costs for the turbo installation?

as in paying someone else to do it? no idea... im sure you could ask around and get quotes from people on this board ranging from shadtrees that do really good work to profesional shops that can do it. you also have the option of piecing it together or buying a kit.

We put a Drag kit on a 93 GSR with 198k on the all original motor, even had original clutch. Car now has over 201k and is running 8psi daily. We also had a F23 with only 58k and it threw a rod (motor was abused it's entire life, even worse after turbo install). Do a compression check and maybe even run it on the dyno to see what numbers it makes. This will help tell the condition of the motor. Even if you don't rebuild it, you need to do maint. things like oil pump, water pump, timing belt, etc.

Let me know what you are looking for and I can give you a quote on parts or install. Later.

its why most KATs blow, motor was abused for 1xx,xxx+ miles and it wasnt reconditioned before the kit was added. if your buying a complete turbo kit any ape with a hammer can put it on, so dont worry bout how hard it is.

hate to jump in like this, but i am thinking of doing the same with a high mileage dx motor and simplyblurredmrT has already made the post. motor has 220K+ miles on it, BUT would a d15b swap be better?

i hope it will last more than 4k miles. also, i'm only wanting a mere ~200whp out of the d15b. the engine will hopefully have low mileage b/c it's jdm. does a 200hp d15b turbo sound realistic? or should i rebuild the ultra high mileage d16y7? again, sorry to jump in

it really depends on the health of the motor. my motor has over 100k and has been boosted over 40k now and is a non-vtec singlecam making over 200whp.

    ask yourself this:
does it smoke on hard acceleration or deceleration? does it burn oil? how does it idle...smooth or jumpy?

do a comp and leakdown test. if all is good then boost it.
