So my brother's laptop is connecting to my router but won't go online. I release the IP. Checked it and it registered all 0's for the IP and when I try to renew it, it times out. Any fix for this or alternative methods to renew an IP?
doesn't sound like he is connecting to anything if you see all 0's...
wireless/wired connection?
Paul "your bullshit makes the flowers grow"
Is the wireless connection secured?
Does the settings inside the router allow for another computer to connect? (is the IP range wide enough)
Have you restarted the wireless router?
give it a static IP
Usually if its a security issue you can check the packet count on the interface. If you're connecting to a secured network it will show transmitted packets but 0 received. More than likely it wasn't communicating with the dhcp server properly.
winsock reset ftw!!!! i know its fixed but you could bypass rtr and confirm tcp/ip setting for dhcp.
how do you reset winsock? i've had to problem before and don't remember how i fixed it...
on xp sp3 and up its netsh winsock reset, sp2 is netsh winsock reset catalog
