    Default mr.vteckidd what do u think

    ok im gonna do my b16 swap in about a month and i want to boost it. but i would like to boost it without bottom end work and head work right now. how much boost is safe with you tuning it and how much power can be made safely. thanx and what do u think about ssac for a low boost project like this. i will eventually do botom end work and head work but that will be in about 9-10 months lmk what u think.

    yeah thats what i figured on boost but i wanna know what kinda of power i can make with a good tune

    The weakest point in your setup will be that SSAC kit.

    Main Stream can fab, tune, and install a very reliable turbo kit for you for about as much as you'll spend replacing parts on your SSAC kit.

    Speaking from experience here... do it once, do it right.

    Edit: But you should be able to do 250whp all day long on stock block. I've seen people push the envelope at 300whp, but don't expect it to last if you beat on your car a lot.

    yeah i was thinkin about it i may as well get a good kit from them since i do plan on doin botom end work and head work in the future thanx iloveboost when u gonna take that teg to the track i want to see some 1/4 mile #s

    yeah thats what i was hoping to here i want about 250 but i want it to be reliable and i dont dump the clutch at 6000 at every stop sign and my shit gets oil change at every 1500- 2000 miles so i take care of it thanks

    If nothing else, at least replace the SSAC manifold.

    You'll be a lot happier if you go that route. That way, when you build the bottom end, all you've gotta do is turn up the boost and not replace your turbo kit, haha.

    my .02

    for a cheap boost project SSAC is fine, just be prepared to fix it if it breaks. If your prepared for that, then go for it.

    B16s dont last past 230whp. They have small ringlands and are very PRONE to BREAKING. EVERY B16 that we do with a turbo lasts 6months, then they come back with cracked ringlands. Its just a problem the b16 pistons have. nothing you can do about it.

    will it last if i put low compression pistons and good rods in it or do the after market pistons have the small ring gland too should i just ride my b16 and when i boost it get a ls blosk and do ls/vtec i would rather stick with the b 16 if possible

    the only way to solve the "ringland problem" is :
    Cheap way:
    Put GSR pistons in it, they can hold 300whp, lowers compression to 9:1

    Expensive way:
    Buy JE,CP, Wiseco Pistons an Eagle rods
    Rods an pistons run $800, Machine work about $300

    also depends im pretty sure your gonna get boost happy safer int he long run

    yeah i would rather go the exspensive way but the sleeving is outa my price range but in a year or so i may get it sleeved but i might go ahead and do botom end work and shit then boost it thanks for the opinions

    if you dont plan on making over 500whp, you dont need sleeves

    ARP HEAD STUDS AND THICKER HEAD GASKET. HKS HEADGASKET DROPS UR COMPRESSION TO AROUND 8.6 WITH STOCK B16 PISTONS. INLINE PRO SELLS A 2 MIL HEAD GASKET THAT DROP UR COMPRESSION TO LIKE 9.0 RUNNING 15 POUNDS ON STOCK MTR AND UPGRADED FUEL SYSTEM A HATCH MADE 326 TO THE WHEELS.

    I HAD THE HKS HEAD GASKET A SPIKED 16 POUNDS A FEW TIMES AND WHEN I TOOK IT APART THE PISTONS WERE FINE. MINE BLEW UP BC OF OIL PUMP FAILURE (SPENT BEARINGS AND SMOKED BC OIL CHANGES ARE WAY OVER RATED)

    haha oil changes over rated damn the thick head gasket deal sounds nice but i would rather be safe and run like 10 lbs like that. but i dont know i think im gonna ride the stock motor, no boost for a while, then go get a turbo kit made by msp. and run like 6 lbs for a while then do the botom end work and head work. but when the time come ill let every one know how it goes.

    GOOD IDEA. 5 POUNDS WITH THAT DAMN HKS HEAD GASKET FELT LIKE A STOCK B16. LOL!!! I SAY U SHOULD BOOST IT, BLOW IT UP, BUILD IT AND REALLY BOOST IT. THAT WAY U CAN LIVE ON THE EDGE/CARELESS IF IT BLOWS UP BC UR GONNA BUILD IT NE WAY. LIKE THIS AT 15 PSI ON STOCK B16: OOOOOOHHHH SSSSHHHHHII *BOOM!!* DAMN.

    You've got a B16 head. You won't need headwork for 450whp.

    Just focus on the turbo kit and getting some forged internals.

    yeah i would like too have 600 but 450 is more than enough for a street/strip car and its more in my range but it will still be a while before i get that much
