Well I missed a couple of other replies here so let me adress those too:
Oh okay so it's MY fault your friend bought hot shit? Don't mix this up man. I didn't jack anyone up - your friend did when he decided it was okay to buy VINless engine/tranny shit.Originally Posted by b16hatchj
I can see that this is an argument that has no conclusion. If you want to continue to defend someone who willingly bought an altered VIN engine and transmission I don't know what else to say.

Yes I am guilty of being nice to customers.im a close friend of southside and the guy you called the police on who was gettin his alignment done, beacuse you,ve done all his other alignments and where so freindly, and i can vouch for everthing southside jus said about tom giving wild rides around his shop in his hatch,
First of all I didn't buy shit.him buying the white volks from my other friend,
Secondly my friend thought better after he got that sick to his stomach feeling about the wheels. The possibility of being stolen was enough to not want them. He saw how narrow they were in the parking lot. He was considering using spacers, etc. Again he began feeling antsy about the deal, so he cancelled the deal. See this is how honest people avoid buying potentially shady shit.
Is there a stolen wheels database that I should be aware of? It's not as obvious as ths stolen engine/tranny found on December 24th.i didnt see you and your buddys trying to find out if they where stolen since you always thought me and my friends were so shady,
Yeah I got plenty of "eat shit" looks from her and the "crew" that was there trying to take the car home that day. As if I did something wrong?then you go and bring my friends mom into this sayin, mommy came and bailed him out which she did
Well then if he makes so much money why does he do shady "business" deals with VINless parts? why buy a c/f hood from some no name dude in a Wal Mart parking lot man? I hope he makes good money. Did you know what white collar criminals also make a shit ton more money than I do? doesn't mean they're honest.but with his hard earn saved up money from his construction job, and im pretty sure he gets payed more than you for answerin those phones up there,
At that point my boss, the owner of the shop, advised me to stay away from you guys. Since I'm but a lowly "phone answerer" I guess I was just following orders. Do you think I wanted to talk to you guys? Here I am always being nice to you guys then you show up at my shop with stolen shit from one of our employees, AND a complete stolen swap.and why are you being so bold and bad now when we where up there you stayed in the farthest bay until the police came, when your always at the front by the door,
Perhaps I am wrong. See I'll be the first to admit if I think I've made a mistake. Perhaps I'm wrong for judging you all based on running with a guy with stolen shit on his car.your wrong for trying to be mr.judge and jury tom,
Then why in the fuck did he buy a swap with obviously removed VIN plates? Some people take a different approach after getting shit stolen from them. Some people think it's okay to buy stolen shit afterwards since they feel like they're owed something.and my friend knows how it feels to get your car stolen when its your pride and joy, his red h22 prelude wit lsd, and red sportmax was stolen out his driveway,
Yes you've outed me as an untrustworthy person to look the other way when presented with a stolen engine swap and a stolen hood that belongs to a close friend/co worker. I'm sure onlookers here have a completely different view of me now, while people defending choices to buy VIN altered parts come out smelling like a rose.so stop pointing the finger TOM, you dont know my me or my friends, even though we thought we knew you
Cliff notes:
DON'T BRING YOUR CAR TO MY SHOP IF YOU HAVE MISSING VIN PLATES.

Wow, this is a VERY interesting thread! Not taking sides since I don't know either one of y'all, but b18c5-eh3 has some very good information. Southside - if your friends buy swaps without VIN plates, tell them thats not smart at all. And I've seen a few other threads saying you're a thief (southside). I'm not saying you are, but many did/are.
b18c5-eh2 - I'll be on the lookout for that thread, man!
Yes I have said alot of stuff that sounds suspect. The reason I said that is because the same people I see doing circles around the mall parking lot are the same people I see with new stuff. On sunday nights when I go out so like I said I know and have seen thiefsOriginally Posted by aguynamedpat
browsing parking lots and the reason why I have killswitches in my Hoopty.I also said to a guy when he was saying thats why I dont drive Hondas.I said I know some people that will come get that Camaro out your driveway.Reason I said that is to show that people steal anything. My friends mom stock accord was stolen from Walmart. My cousins Caprice was stolen from his apartments my point was that people steal anything.Including Lawn mowers because mine was on my back porch and was stolen.I mean really if you live anywhere around and hang out at any spot you see people with New shit just about everyweek and you wonder where the hell they got it.These are the same people you see scrambling at meets to see someone that pops there hood.Alot of people make accusations about stuff they dont know about. As many times I have recieved pms about stolen cars that a person says well my car came up missing in clayton county. And someone pmd me saying I should ask you because I tell them just like I tell everyone else."check the trailor parks".My friends prelude when it got stole was spotted parked at a guys house in a trailor park and the guy didnt tell me this until after his car was recoverd and I kept asking around. So everytime I see someones car was stolen from down here.I tell them CHeck the trailor parks.

Yes the guy Blake said that Turtlesquad stole his car LMAO because he had went to one of my friends house that ran his shop out of his backyard kinda like Voungs Garage. And he seen all the parts and stuff and guess he figured it was a chop shop. But when I contacted the guy Blake Via pm he said he also knew alot of people that stole stuff. When I mean know I dont mean personal friends but like when someone tells you oh watch out for that guy he steals shit. And he said turtlesquad took his shit and all this and that when his Si was stolen from the movie theater. Then later on someone told me that the guy knew who stole his car but he was scared to confront them and dropped the subject and that is when my friend that had his shop in his backyard got pissed because the guy was saying he had a chop shop or some shit and he knew that we had something to do with it.LMAO when people shit gets stolen everyone becomes a suspect and the blame game gets played.Trust me I know but just because someone says something doesnt make it true.Kinda like if I say you suck dick is it true?MAYBE Maybe not but who knows but if someone makes that accusation then of course they are going to think you have sufficient evidence to go along with you saying Im positive they have something to do with my car coming up missing.Originally Posted by aguynamedpat
[QUOTEB18C5-EH2]Okay so let me ask this question while the crew is reading:
DO YOU CONSIDER BUYING ENGINES/TRANSMISSIONS WITH REMOVED VIN PLATES PERFECTLY NORMAL?
What was your answer prior to December 24th when your friend got caught.
What is your answer now?
It's an honest question.[/QUOTE] Like I said as many motors I have seen for sale without vins it kinda is normal.Because you are not always going to find amotor with a vin plate. And my answer prior to Dec. 24 would have been to buy it and dont ask questions if its cheap. And my answer now is to get the cop that stays down the street from me to check it.Im sure he would have no problem running a vin or serial number for me.Or get them to write a bill of sale with there license number and signature. But if it sounds like its too good to be true then I dont mess with it.Due to the fact that people already try to accuse me of stealing.Because they have no one else to blame so I try to stay away from motors that dont have vin plates as much as possible and is the reason I have a single cam now.
also like I said my friend was wrong for purchasing the parts and probly shouldnt have but when stuff is cheap. One thing says dont do it and the other says buy it hes prolly just broke. But as for a apology Idk if your going to get one of those. My friend didnt do anything wrong but purchase the stolen items its not like he was the one who stole them. And the whole way he was treated didnt sit too right with him.Considering he was treated as if he was a criminal from the get go and had no chance to explain to your working where he had purchased the hood from. Before the cops were brought into the situation as if they had witnessed him stealing the items. The cops didnt wanna hear the truth at all and neither would anyone else. But when the shit hits the fan it hits the fan.And afterward then the true hits the fan and is when everyone comes to reason.LIke oh I see now but at first you didnt wanna hear it right. And from all the accusations no one did everyone was just hearing oh someone got caught redhanded and that was it.My friend bought something from one of your friends and was warned saying watch out a thief got caught at my shop.So you have to understand where he would be kinda bitter about the whole situation.Even though he was in the wrong from purchasing items without proper identification plates.![]()
That last response was absolutely civil, and I can appreciate that.
You'll have to forgive me as I'm "out of the loop" and I have never really been big into buying swaps and parts from local people. I've always done business with Import Auto Salvage in N.C, Pacific Engine Co. back in the day, and J.E.I locally. I've never understood it to be "normal" to buy VIN-removed swaps, so when I see stuff like that it immediately makes me think "thief." Seeing my friend's/co-worker's hood at the same time also makes me think "thief." I think we've well covered this, but I feel almost like I have to defend myself for calling the cops which was the only right way to get that hood back.
You might also notice I've yet to post that topic naming the name too. Maybe dropping hints here and there was the best thing so that we could have this discussion since nobody from your camp ever stopped back by my shop to explain anything. Check my posting history here on IA and you'll see I'm very rarely/never on here. I saw your topic about engine bays and I dropped a hint because I thought it was ironic that you were asking to see engine bays, and your friend had a stolen swap.
I've had shit stolen too. It sucks. I think anyone who has experiences that sort of violation looks for ways to get back at thieves. I'm not trying to sound like an ass but myself and the guy whose hood was stolen don't follow some sort of "code" when it comes to "the scene." Where I'm at in life is calling the police when shit like that goes down. This was also at a place of business, with a business owner's interests in mind. She was definately not trying to play the "just ask for the hood back" game. It was "if you don't call the police I will" and that was that.
The stolen engine swap really cinched the whole calling the cops thing. I've got a friend who has had two cars stolen from him, and one was a 99-00 Civic Si - it could have been his engine.
Hindsight is always 20/20, meaning perhaps we could always have done something different. If your friend really had no clue a VIN-less swap wa shady then that sucks. He certainly knows now. I guess if everything gets dropped, he keeps the engine and it's somehow "legitimized" and he gets off with a slap on the wrist then that's as close to "justice" for all parties involved.
I cannot say I'd do the calling the cops thing differently though given the exact same circumstances. when the cops start saying shit like "yeah well his cell phone from the car has a lot of parts exchanging activity" it made me think that we had stumbled upon a full blown theft ring. What else was I to think? I can't give a guy with a stolen engine swap the benefit of the doubt given those circumstances.
If you think I'm a low life dirty snitch then I can't say anything to change your minds.
How would you have handled that situation being in my position? Don't forget that I had a fuming pissed co-worker and the owner of the shop to answer to as well.
Last thing for the night:
Just curious if you guys ever tracked down the guy(s) that sold the swap and the hood to your friend. See if I were you guys I'd be more pissed off at them than anyone. Surely you had the seller's phone number or something, or else how did you set up the deals?
And finally:
Since what's done is done what resolution do you think is best RIGHT NOW?
Meaning your friend can't unbuy stolen goods, and I can't uncall the cops.
I don't expect you guys to show up at the shop with a fruit basket or anything, just like you can't expect my co worker and I to apologize for calling the police.
