The full story of my Supra "from start to now"

Disclaimer:

Let me say this im not writing this to bash or disrepsect anyone person or shop this is a clear timeline story of my supra from beginning to its current state, please do not post until im done with the whole story, thank you for your time.

Hi the names Andrew, many may know me as "Tank, G.O.D. or Bleach" but to those who personally know me its Andrew. I wanted to share some FACTS on whats been going on with my supra there seems to be alot of false rumors, and folks as well as shops saying some of the wrong things so within this thread ill set the story straight shall we?























Chapter 1 :The Supra i always wanted





Lets start from Day 1 when i purchased the car, i was surfing autotrader determined to buy me a supra "yes a NA one" and found one a yellow 93.5 in arizona. The day before i was to fly out to pick it up the deal fell through and the car was sold locally, depressed but determined i began my serach yet again. this time i found one in chicago 72k miles aftermarket wheels stereo, and only 2 owners. I called the guy "his price 14k" and told him i had 12k cash and would fly the next day to pick it up, we agreed i fly to chicago and after some road testing i drove home in my Supra .

As i stated before i wanted a NA supra, i see your wondering why . Well after many nights talking to daveh and working out a plan of action i found it to be a better route to go NA-T rather then fork out a extra 5 - 15k on a tt. facts are in the end whether your TT or NA you'll eventually end up going single turbo "if you want power" so why not jump straight to it instead of paying 5-10k more then getting into it. thats what i did. heres pics of my supra when i first had it bone stock and all.

Chapter 2: Making a plan of attack






As i stated before Me and daveh "boostwerx.com fastest NA-t to record", had be putting together a setup and plans based on what i wanted out of the car. our initial theory was.....

Pt67 daveh turbo kit
Map ecu
SMIC
2.5mm headgasket
arp headstuds

wasnt looking for anything major just aroun 350-400HP on a built auto tranny. Well shortly afterwards i deployed "im army" to Kuwait in this time i bought all the pieces required for this however the plan changed a lil bit heres what i ended up with.

T67 turbo "with boostlogic turbo blanket"
Dave h exhaust and intake manifold
1000CC injectors
4 core fmic
3" intercooler piping
2.5mm Boostlogic head gasket
ARP headstuds
AEM EMS 1101 with all bells and whistles
built auto tranny with 2800 stall

i was over overjoyed at the fact i got all these things together and what even better i was also able to secure me a TRD widebody kit and a set of CCW 505a's for a widebody things was definitly looking up. One thing i want to add in is the built auto tranny never happened after one month of debate and issues with a certain company i ended up with a th350. So whats left .............. you guessed it time to pick a shop for the work.

Chapter 3:



So after finally finding my Baby, Planning what i wanted to see, and Obtaining all the parts, all that was left was finding the right shop. Before i go into why i chose the shop i chose let me give you a lil background on myself. I'm in the Army and March 05 i was assigned here in Atlanta, thats right folks ive only lived here 2 years. For this reason i chose to listen to my friends and opinions of folks on different shops. At first i was gonna take my supra to batlground but at the time the team i was on "Xlr8shen" strongly adviced me against this instead they told me about another shop i never heard of, Topspeed.

Now initially i knew nothing about this shop except what i was told and from what i got it was a good shop so i felt confident in putting my supra in there hands. So i did ...................



and left feeling confident and happy of what was to come. I spoke with Trey "one of the workers" at topspeed and we discussed how everything was to be and he also was very good in giving me updates on my ride. Also Topspeed took very good care of my car while it was there keeping it clean and out of the elements to a extent i can say they have good customer service, however unknown to me dark days was ahead.

Chapter 4: The Storm

Lets start with some basic information:

1. My supra spent a total of 5 months a Topspeed
"a round about figure"

2. My supra left Topspeed 2 times the first it was returned cause of tranny issues.

3. i paid Topspeed 5400 dollars for the work the did





Alright now that we past that let me go into detail...


Month 1--- as you seen in this picture, which was taken 03-30-2006



My Supra and all parts was dropped off at Topspeed ready for a simple turbo install, no block work with the exception of a headgasket and head studs, and a simple task of pulling the transmission and re-enstalling it once it arrived back from being built.

Well heres what took place during month one the compnay that was suppose to build the tranny ended up shaftin me bigtime, in the end they ended up keeping my NA tranny and i ended up buying a Built Th350 with a custom 4300 stall. because of this 1 months time was wasted, i will take full responsibility for this month it wasnt Topspeeds fault.

Month 2...
According the information i recieved through updates from Trey during this month the install was underway and the tranny had arrived towards the end of the month but appearently during shipment of the transmission the tranny case had been damaged. No problem i immediatly called DaveH "who built and sold me the tranny" and he had another case at Topspeed by the end of the week. keep in mind this is month 2 a whole month passing.
Around the end of this month i get a lil antsy and wonder what the hell is going on why is it taking so long for this to happen so i begin to call and heres some of the reason i hear for the time frame..........

Topspeed has never delt with any Th-series transmissions. they had no clue how about installation, it took cordination between daveh and some outside help for them to get this done, even then it still was fouled up. Hmmm ok no biggy i can let that slide by hey everyone cant know everything and by now ive figured out this isnt a shop use to dealing with a wide assortment of vehicles there use to evo's and wrx's. but ok no biggy we move on and here comes month 3 i get a call to come pick up the supra

Chapter 5 ---DISASTER


Thats right you guessed it disaster after 3 1/2 long months i finally head to pick up my Supra. So i call up JC "TigerJc on IA" and ask him to roll with me to pick her up. me being happy as a kid in candy land we head up to Topspeed. When we arrive My baby is sitting outside ready to roll and im greeted by Doug "topspeeds head mechanic" we chat for a minute and then he takes me on a lil spon around the block explaining the transmission and so forth.

Well if anyone has ever seen or rode in a TH-series or powerglide transmissioned vehicle you'll notice one thing the hard crisp pull of the transmission however that wasnt the case. Doug would have to attempt 2-3 times before the car would shift into gear when i asked him why is that he replied thats how these trannys are. But in reality what had happened was they did not install the "excuse my lack of mechanical knowledge" tranny line correctly. this line is what makes these transmission shift gears and since my th350 is a manual valve body i have to shift gears to drive it kind of like a manu-matic in newer cars now a days.

So me not knowing any better i say ok and drive off happy as pig in slop but not knowing that there was a major problem due to there installation. See what happened is this line was not put on the proper brackt because of this "and another issue from installation" the tranny wouldnt shift properly.

So lets fast forward to later that afternoon matter a fact 4 hours later me and tiger are about to head to stockbridge in the supra as we leave my home we head up 138, we then pass under 75s and then it happens i cant shift gears no more WTF the tranny is smoking hot and i cant shift unknown to us the tranny line was severed. I manage to make it to a quicktrip nearby and call chad "chadbee" and let him know what happened 6 cars roll up most are now members of PMS and all see the tranny leaking on the ground and smoking. i attempted to contact trey doug and clark but to no avail i was stuck so i drove home 5 miles a hour pissed making frequent stops so the tranny would not over heat further.

Chapter 6 - Repeated failure

Remember me saying i couldnt reach anyone about the issue when it happened wait til you hear this. so its around midnight i finally get home pissed so i decide to share my story guess where Here IA, and i was about to hit evolutionM. i couldnt believe that after 3 1/2 months of waiting my supra lasted 4 hours, 4 fucking hours how the hell so my fingers got to typing and guess what. at 1:36 A.M i recieved a phone call guess from who....................................give up, its trey from TOPSPEED and hes wondering whats going on but hes more concerned about the post i made and promises to take care of it free of charge and provide me rental fee for the inconvience. See like i said Topspeed has great customer service now if they could work on those mechanics they would be set. But ok cool Topspeed arranges for my supra to be picked up "via tow truck" the next day and they start back working on it that following monday.


well 1 1/2 months pass and here we are again back at TOPSPEED ready for pick up, once again im greeted by Doug and we set out on a nice road trip with a laptop in my lap. so he shows me that the tranny is shifting fine and everything is good to go. im happy once again he sets the boost for pump gas and i drive home again tigerjc was with me. I have no issues as i head home so im good right?, wrong.

So im i cant remember the exact date of me picking my supra up but that very next day was a saturday and i was in Gwinnett the usual spot BP by petco. Now my car was running fine up til this point no issues however i had a small run in nothing major but a small run in, after this incident i began to drive home as im driving down 75s i hear a clanking sound wtf is it and i see black smoke from my rear. WTF is that "remember im not that mechanical" so i make it home and the next day i call up my boy Li "vinhsbody" and ask if they got time to look at it Li comes to my house and he looks and we cant figure it out oh and Kaleb and tigerjc also come by no one can figure out whats up the car pushing black smoke and not holding boost hmmmm. so we take it to Li's shop under the impression the turbo is blown and lord behold BLOWN TURBO. thats right my pt67 was gone totally blown out wtf how did this happen well after uninstalling the turbo setup we find out what happened. When topspeed installed teh oil feed line to the turbo they place a ziptie on it towards the dash well this zip tie became the problem. for some reason it was cutting of all the oil that was suppose to be going to the turbo "kinked in other words" end result my pt67 turbo and setup now is invalid as a stolen visa card in walmart. Luckily i had another setup already at home my Gt42-76 but there was no way in hell it was going back to topspeed .

So after 4 hours and 4 people working on it we installed the whole gt42-76 setup with 4" downpipe "the same 4"downpipe Topspeed said wouldnt fit" 4 hours and installed a new oil feed line. all this in 4 hours so wtf was they doing in 4 months of time.

Chapter 7-----New day


after the installation of My new setup i was running open downpipe in total limp mode for fear of blowing the motor. I contact Mainstream for a 4" exhaust system and tune and got a appointment the next week. Me and James "reaper on IA" arrive to mainstream and meet up with turbo dave he then throws the car on the rack and begins making this nice ass exhaust, only took him 2 hrs shit is hella nice. Then he lowers the car down straps her on the dyno and begins tuning however because of another appointment we had to stop and ended with a nice base tune which is cool better safe then sorry heres the dynoe sheet ..............


as you can see the a/f ratios were well within 12:1
and never revved above 6000rpms. They set the rev
limiter at 6200, sounds safe to me this was only for 1 week anyway then i had a 3 hour tune scheduled for my baby.

sounds safe my ass Topspeed strikes again unknowned to me AGAIN there was one more issue. As im casually cruising home from work i hear this sound, it sounds like sucking with the targa off i couldnt tell then i noticed im losing power. Im in the middle of fucking 75s and losing power wtf, so i get off at the riverdale exit and before i even come to a complete stop the car cuts off. This was on my brithday i spent 6 hours on state road 85 waiting on a tow truck wondering why and what happened pissed and saddened at the fact theres another GOD DAMN PROBLEM. i call mike at mainstream and he tells me what he thinks and to have the car sent back to them thats what i do. The next day i get a call and guess what the motor is blown. Why, What , Who do i need to kill is all im thinking im pissed cause i know i wasnt racing or doing shit i was chilling. then Mike starts to explain. You see im running 1000cc injectors now when you upgrade injectors what else needs to happen............................................ .................................................. ....try tapping the holes and getting o-rings that fit the damn injectors. but guess what for some reason teh injectors was jammed into there places with my stock NA o-rings. So i wonder who the fuck could make such a mistake who the hell has the balls to call themself a mechanic but does this kind of work. i didnt need to guess i told mike thanks we talked about a plan of action and i got of the phone with him. i called Topspeed and nope i didnt talk to try i talked right with Doug and requested to have a meeting about this with the owner of Topspeed cause this was crazy 5400 dollars and this is what you do. Now i know your all wondering what he said right heres his words.

theres alot of shops out to get us since you didnt bring it back up here we dont know what is wrong, with teh injectors if they seated before then they should not have popped out.

^this is what i got, and i was told that they would call me back for a meeting on it but that never happened. Its so funny everyone is out to get this shop but they cant see that this is clearly there fault. anyway back on topic to make this short the injectors came out and the o-rings was destroyed causeing my block to lean out and blow. when i said this doug Blamed Mainstreams dynoe claiming that, is the reason this whole issue occured but look back people look at the dyno and a/r does that seem plausible i think not but ahh how about pics of the o-rings lets check that out. here you go it may not show very well but there destroyed and i still have them just incase they say otherwise

Conclusion----------

I feel i got shafted big time and at this very moment MY vehicle is at Mainstream its been there every since the block blew, 2 weeks ago i gave mainstream a $2k advancement on the work thats about to occur on my ride. Thats right 2k on a 3k job and i have high hopes yet again and feel this shop is Topnotch, based on there work on my supra so far . So far they fixed the oring issue and i believe they should be starting on the motor work. i brought them some 270 crower cams and other goodies but ill build me a spare head over time then use the cams "being safe".

all in all im saying this the parts i bought was not second hand and i have gotten word that Topspeed is telling folks they was i can assure they was not im very disappointed that a shop would stoop so lo to save face instead of trying to fix there mistakes, but this is 07 new year so i decided to write this to clear up all the crap from last year and rumors on my Supra. Hopefully very soon ill have her back and i will again write another report on what happened and the results whether good or bad, why you ask because i dont want anyone to go through the crap i went through with Topspeed. Til this day they have not tried to make good on anything all i get are excuses and recently dodged calls i got fucked out of 5400 bucks so yes im sharing and letting it be known as what happened with my ride. Although a lil ashamed i take it as a learning experience and move forward. so ill leave on this note....

Be very careful about who you entrust your vehicle to there are many shops that do good work and many who steal cheat and lie do your research and be smart or you to can be out of 5400 bucks just like i was.

its exactly why I don't trust my car to any shop at all. EP3sAreFun brought his Starion to Balanced Performance when he first got it and they were completely baffeled at how they couldn't find the fuel rail - the damn car doesn't HAVE a fuel rail

I've been in the scene a long time and I don't understand people... if your spending a large amount of $$$ why would you go to a shop who has never done something before? or why would you go to a shop that isn't known for working on your type of car?

from what i know Topspeed hasn't built many supras; i would of gone to Batl, AAP, or Mahdavi... shit all of those shops have Supra race cars.

while i understand where your coming from Paul let me shed a few points for you.

1. as i stated before i had no knowledge of any shops and if you really want to be technical i was already lined up to bring my supra to batlground, i had been talking with tracy for quite sometime.

2. my decision wasnt based on who rode whos dick it was based on customer review and what i heard, because in my eyes a shop can build anything however if they have poor customer service or record of theft or cars with issues then it discourages me while i was in xlr8shen these was points that was brought to me about batlground whether true or not i dont know but it was enough to worry me.

3. your right i should have done more research but from what i dug up Topspeed was suppose to be a decent shop however i never knew they wasnt skilled in supra's technically the only 2 people who worked on my car was Doug "head mechanic" and Clark "1000hp clark not sure why since he is not employed there.



again no issues with what your saying Paul just clarifying i was here in country less then a year so i went with what folks told me.

the only thing i will say in this thread before its locked is this:

I can only THEORIZE what happened, i have NEVER seen the dyno sheet from TOPSPEED and i have NEVER seen hp numbers from TopSpeed.

All i can say is that we tuned it for 1 hour, set rev limiter at 6000, a/fs were safe and it made like 3psi of boost. the car was let go, with EXPLICIT instructions not to boost the car or to rev it past 6000.

Tank calls me a week later, and explains to me he heard some kind of "knocking" noise. which immiedietely im thinking its something to do with his tranny. He tells me the car wont start, an he towes it back.

Upon inspection of the car, the Distributor was not even bolted down, and the car would crank and had no spark. In the morning, we looked at it and all the Orings for the injectors were blown out. This car is a MAF car. The orings were causing a vacuum leak an the car woulodnt start.

We fixed the orings , cranked it up and the car rod knocked. Now only Tank will ever know the exact chain of events.

All i can say is that prob what happened was his Distributor moved (since it was loose) and advanced or retarded timing like crazy, the motor backfired and blew the incorrect oring seals out. Although tank says he never heard anything like a backfire. so maybe it detonated, who knows.

I never said it was TOPSPEEDS fault, i did say that the wrong Orings were used for the injectors. LET ME MAKE THAT CRYSTAL CLEAR. i will not have a shop war, i dont have time for that.

BOttom line is, tanks beef with Topspeed is between him and that shop. Im out of it, hes a customer that needs a motor rebuilt, its not my problem bor is it of my concern what happened PREVIOUSLY at TOPSPEED. He an doug can handle it.

As far as where to take your car, im surprised you didnt list us Paul, seeing as i probably have more 1j and 2j stuff in my parking lot than any shops you mentioned. but i dont have a race car, yet...............

Well I am for shop bashing if you do a negative job, it should be stated so others sre warned. Just like if we did a bad job at the detail shop others should know. 1. as i stated before i had no knowledge of any shops and if you really want to be technical i was already lined up to bring my supra to batlground, i had been talking with tracy for quite sometime.

2. my decision wasnt based on who rode whos dick it was based on customer review and what i heard, because in my eyes a shop can build anything however if they have poor customer service or record of theft or cars with issues then it discourages me while i was in xlr8shen these was points that was brought to me about batlground whether true or not i dont know but it was enough to worry me.

3. your right i should have done more research but from what i dug up Topspeed was suppose to be a decent shop however i never knew they wasnt skilled in supra's technically the only 2 people who worked on my car was Doug "head mechanic" and Clark "1000hp clark not sure why since he is not employed there.



again no issues with what your saying Paul just clarifying i was here in country less then a year so i went with what folks told me.

I feel ya man, i'm not going to say i haven't done the same... i had a shop almost kill me in my car b/c of their fuck up... i had my motorswaped at a shop which took them 6 months to do and finally when i got it back they left the pin off the control arm and it ripped the axle out of the car while i was taking a left turn... needless to say it could of killed me or someone else if i was on the hwy or in a busy intersection.

the point is you take your projects to shops w/ the rep to back up your application... i don't care if a shop is full of assholes or has a bad rap for drama... i'm not paying for FRIENDS i'm paying for an application on my ride to be done. i mainly own VW thats why i only go to EPG for my tech work, b/c they are VW/AUDI specialist, 98% of their customers thats all they drive... i know when i need something done i can feel comfortable going there. how many TS supra customers do you know? thats my point; go to Batl/AAP on any given week and you will easily see 3-5 supras at their shops. I wouldn't take advice from someone who owns a WRX, EVO, CIVIC... you drive a surpa.

the smartest thing to do is when your spending 1000's at a shop is say GIVE ME A LIST OF SUPRA OWNERS I CAN SPEAK WITH THAT HAVE HAD THEIR CARS BUILT HERE. if they can't provide you with that then turn around and walk out; be glad your in the import scene there are tons of shops that can do what you want.

Well I am for shop bashing if you do a negative job, it should be stated so others sre warned. Just like if we did a bad job at the detail shop others should know. Or if burger king gave me a hard ass bun. Look I have had bad time with shops before and plenty of people know I hate Doug with a passion. But all people on here should be able to voice their opinion.

N/A supra's suck anyway. I guess if you have a shop and have supra's as shop cars and race them your the man when it comes to them. It dosen't matter what kind of shop you are there is a right way to do things. If your a shop you know something is right or wrong. If you don't know, you better ask someone. The biggest problem with most shops is standing behind there work. If something is wrong you need to make it right...... And not ass fucking your customer on the price.
