Canon T4i just got released. I haven't tried it out though.

If going cheap, look at the Nikon D5100 and Canon T2i. They both do video and stills.

How much are you looking to spend? The cheapest camera I would even look at is a Canon S100.

I'd honestly say get a consumer-line canon SLR, they are so damn easy to use and learn on until you want to go out and get a big boy. Literally no reason to get a big boy camera unless you know what you're doing because it can make everything even harder and more overwhelming and your shots won't even come out as good unless you spend some real time figuring everything out.

I'd recommend getting a T2i or T3i as a starter SLR, they also shoot amazing video, just youtube reviews and actual video footage

The best camera is one you know how to use. A $45,000 Hasselblad doesn't take any better photos than a $400 point & shoot if you don't know how to use either, just like the baddest Red Digital Cinema camera isn't going to shoot better video than a $200 Handycam off Craigslist.

Get a point & shoot with manual settings and a fixed f/2.8 lens...and practice until your finger is blistered.
