    Google "irfanview". Download it. Go to the plugins page, and download the misc plugins zip or the entire archive. It'll give you some .DLL files to put in the IrfanView plugins folder. One of those is EXIF. Open an image in IrfanView, then press I. It'll open up an information dialog. There's a button for EXIF info. The number you're looking for is "Total Pictures". Easy-peasy.

    make sure to click exif and its nine lines up from the bottom. you will see "total number of s..."
