Default art buffs with knowledge of photography

I have an assignment due next monday that I need to shoot wednesday in the studio. The assignment is to recreate a classical portrait like caravaggio or bernini or something of the like, with 1:8 lighting using strobe. so the brightest point, and then the shadow side 4 stops darker low key. he isnt so concerned with costume or props as the lighting technique, but thats still a consideration.

So my question for you art buffs is merely suggestions for paintings that represent a dark shadow with bright highlight in the face that is from a somewhat known painter, but that isn't a must.

    any suggestions welcome.

    Danke!

If I'm understanding you correctly, which I think I am, the first person who popped into my mind is Van Rijn

This is a de La Tour piece... St. Joseph The Carpenter..

From what I gathered, you're basically looking for pieces with a strong sense of chiaroscuro, correct?

Fuck stance. Stance is for kids in skinny jeans with Justin Beiber haircuts. You don't need stance when you got swagger.

LOL just do a google image search for chiaroscuro... Literally "light and dark" in Italian. It has the light and dark dichotomy you're lookin for
