    Default need help choosing camera

Ive been into photography for quite some time now. Problem is...i cant really afford a dslr camera and i dont have the knowledge or experience yet. so my question is what is a good camera to start with? my budget is 400 and im more for picture quality than camera looks. i know that canon cameras have superior quality.

Also posted a similar thread on another forum and they said not to buy an expensive point and shoot because theres no "inbetween" for point and shoot and dslr cameras.

I have over a dozen Digital cameras ranging from $89 to $800 and the first one that comes to mind for your situation would probably be the Canon SD900 PowerShot.

The new ELPH represents beauty and power in perpetual harmony. With its sinuous perpetual curve design elegantly clad in pure titanium, the PowerShot SD900 ELPH is visually arresting. But what's inside is just as impressive: a powerful 10.0 megapixel CCD, 3x optical zoom and newly developed DIGIC III Image Processor. Top-level functionality puts you at the forefront of digital technology, with expanded low-light shooting capability, a built-in digital tele-converter and futuristic Face Detection technology for incredible group shots. I would have to agree. I'm a photo major and own DSLR through the A-1 by Cannon and they have been the best cameras ever. Cannon has some inexpensive point and shoots. I wish you the best of luck

If you're looking at point and shoots and limit yourself to Canon, dont expect a LOT for your money. Look around, companies such as Panasonic/Samsung/ Olympus make excellent point and shoot style cameras with quality features Nikon and Canon leave out of theirs. I am a Nikon fan (D200 user here) and I chose Nikon over Canon for a lot of reasons, but I think both are great in the DSLR market.

I would have to agree. I am kinda hooked on Olympus myself but the Nikon is a close 2nd and I own a few of each.

I'm all about the Crayola's!! This is the VGA resolution camera i've been secretly using for all my photos...Shhhh Check out its versatility with the rubberized EZ grip handles!! Plus you can use the extra $350 you save for a photo printer!
