^should I stock up on some winter gear? It shows temps in the 60s with 10mph winds for that day.

dude if you plan on being in the water, you wont last more than 5-10min wet without proper gear. after 15min u will be miserable and probably barley able to swim.

remember this water is about 39 degree water. Most people dont like getting in water below 76-80degs, and thats chilly.
60deg air temp will help a little, but nothing noticable. If you go with out proper gear, stay close to the dock.

Do you have experience in this cool of water?

Remember water draws heat from the body 25 times faster than air. So basically if u go with just normal swiming suit, it would be like standing in 39deg air naked, except you would get cold 25 times faster in the water than in the air.

Somthing else to remember: cold shock: water this temp if you were to jump/fall in would casue a cold shock reflex (a big gasp) possibly inhaling water.

Here is a chart for water temps and survival/exhaustion times. my 10-15 min guess was pretty accurate.

    Hypothermia Chart

32.5 deg Under 15 min. Exhaustion or Unconsciousness
Under 15 - 45 min. Expected Time of Survival

    32.5 - 40 deg
    15 - 30 min. Exhaustion or Unconsciousness
30 - 90 min Expected Time of Survival

    40 - 50 deg
    30 - 60 min. Exhaustion or Unconsciousness
1 - 3 hours Expected Time of Survival

    50 - 60 deg
    1 - 2 hours Exhaustion or Unconsciousness
1 - 6 hours Expected Time of Survival

    60 - 70 deg
    2 - 7 hours Exhaustion or Unconsciousness
2 - 40 hours Expected Time of Survival

    70 - 80 deg
    3 - 12 hours Exhaustion or Unconsciousness
3 - Indefinite Expected Time of Survival

    Over 80 deg
    Indefinite Exhaustion or Unconsciousness
    Indefinite Expected Time of Survival

Sorry if i am typing too much, i just dont want to read about u and your buddies in the paper.

    here is what i wear:

O'Niell Mutant 5mm wet suit with 3mm Hood (rated to 34degF i belive)
    O'Niell 3mm Gloves
    Rip Curl 5mm Booties
JetPilot Side entry Stance vest (a neopreme vest helps add a good bit of warmth)
SixSixOne comp helmet (adds warmth, and keeps you a little safer)

everything minus the helmet is probably 550$. which might be a little pricy for you, i dont know.

I my hands get cold after an 2 hours, and my nose starts running after about 30 seconds

I would head over to ambush and see what they have, they dont stock a very good selection, so good luck getting stuff quickly. I ordered most of my gear from cleanlinesurf.com

if your on a budget, a 3mm suit will cost you 150$, and you will get cold after 30min probably.

Waiting two months might be cheaper, and safer

I know right where you are. That's the bridge with all the ropes hanging down for fishermen.

I'm jealous, I haven't been able to get in the water for quite a while.

Used to be up there for the better part of a few summers. That's when I was still in school.. I miss waterskiing.

this is the wetsuit i have:
    http://www.cleanlinesurf.com/product...at=1392&page=1

anything thinner than 5mm, maybe 4mm, you are gonna be cold and uncomfortable.

booties and gloves are a must also, for any extended amount of time. booties are 50$ and gloves are 40$

check out rip curls "f-bomb" suit, its very nice also.

Yeah. I've skied in the big area at the dam, when the water's choppy, it's pretty damn fun.

I miss jumping off of the cliffs though. Eveytime it was scary, but fun as hell.

I'm planning on going up there this summer to do some more skiing, and hopefully learn how to ride my skurfboard.
