I think I found one...it is called K40...import tuner and some Vette magizine liked it enough to say that it did what the company said it would...up to about 120mph...

The best laser diffusers are the M20 Extreme or the Escort ZR3.

There are others out there, but only the ones mentioned have been really tested and had published reports on them.

None are cheap, but things that work well rarely are.

i would agree with the escort zr3 its very nice. a bit pricey, but like jamie said there has even been reports, studies and comparisons done that its well worth it.

as far as RDs go i personally use the 8500 and love it, the red one not the blue..its jst 50 bucks more for the color. the v1, i considered it..but it was 100 dollars more for arrows. in my opinion, if my radar blows up regardless of what direction it is im gona slow it down.

I have to do something, Ive had 3 tickets in the past month, for not doing anything wrong!
I got pulled over 2 nights ago for running 60-65 in a 55 zone, and the fag said I was going 72. He said my gauge was wrong, and I told him there was no way cause its right with my GPS! Well they pulled four different people over while I was pulled over as well....so something was up! I will pay for a good radar detector, but I dont want to go crazy with the price!

Rush, the only place to get the V1 NEW is directly from Valentine. It's $399 + shipping. The 8500 NEW from Escort is about $100 cheaper. Both can be had from Ebay Used for less, but you have to watch out for the V1 and which version it is.

Don't ever buy a V1 used w/o first checking out it's S/N against V1's website to find out what version it is. DO NOT take the word of the person selling it to you. You can easily and in 30 secs KNOW exactly which one it is and what it has and doesn't have by inputting the S/N of ANY unit in V1's website. It will tell you if it needs updating or it's the latest and greatest. ALL V1 units LOOK exactly the same, so it's impossible to tell merely by looking. If an Ebayer will not put up its S/N for you to check it out BEFORE buying......RUN the other direction. ALL V1's are upgradeable. Their service is outstanding. I just sent mine in to upgraded and it was absolutely awesome service and turn around time. Truly incredible. I would highly recommend it just for that.

I also have the M20 Extreme diffuser. It can be had new from several local retailers at the full retail price of $350, but can be found on the net for considerably less. According to the different tests done on this unit, it is been found to be extremely good at jamming lasers from clocking you. They also make another version called the M40. The only difference is that includes diodes/receivers for the rear also. I didn't have anywhere to mount those, so I left that one alone.

This was an extensive RD test done over real world driving in real world conditions. Excellent article. I've read the whole thing. In some tests one detector performs better than others, but all in all the top dogs are still the top dogs.

There are full on laser diffuser tests, but the bottomline is that only a couple of them work and that is the ZR3 and the M20/M40.

BTW, for those that don't know:

Beltronics, i.e. BEL, bought out Escort. Therefore, all "BEL" products and Escort products, especially their high end stuff are clones of each other. The RX65 Pro is internally very similar if not a clone of the 8500 X50.

So when they are compared, usually the Bel and Escort products end up with very similar performance results, and rightly so.

I know its working because I go through several red light camera intersections and the damn thing goes nuts.....but I've yet to get hit by a real one on the hwy. We'll see what happens when I do......

The 8500 X50 is anywhere between $300-350 and the ZR3 is anywhere between $350-500. So, $575 is a good deal.

New, that combo would run someone realistically and depending on how much leg work they wanted to do somewhere between $650-800.

Thanks for the awesome info, that helps me out a lot! I have never got a speeding ticket in my car, it has always been the Montero, but I did get pulled over the other night for an expired tag, which is still exspired since Febuary of this year on the car tag.....lol...so I cant be pissed about that!

I will be purchasing a RD pretty soon, so I will prolly get either one of these mentioned!

yea i cant exactly rmr i could easily be mistaken. question though, the sr7 comes with the zr3...right? but its suppose to be built in? is that what you can get on some cars factory? like i know audi does it...i know porsche does it too...but its costly around 2k or so from either of them

The SR7 is over $1k by itself. It is very expensive. It's basically the 8500 internals and the ZR3 combined into one combo unit.

I was gonna get the SR7 a while back, but figured I could get just as much (if not better) protection for less by getting both separately.

I have both the 8500 and V1 and now the M20. I've had atleast 15 different RD units from Cobras to Escort to Bel to back when they were called Passports. As a matter of fact, I still have an old Cobra that looks just like the very first Passport, which has a gieger meter looking thing as a strength meter. It's as big as a damn shoe. Damn thing looks like a lie detector test machine.... Trust me, I've seen some good and some not so good units, which is probably why I ended up with the V1 and the 8500.

I use the 8500 in the wife's car and the V1 in my car. I feel perfectly protected with both, although it is true that once you have the arrows and the V1 you really don't want to go back. But that's just my personal choice.

I have too. The only thing I'm a little skeptical about is if one small diode can cover the entire front of a car when most other systems require two. It seems to work though. It's about the same price range as the others too.

BTW, here is a video of the M20 in action. The video is uber cheesy and backyard looking, but the actual laser shooting sequences are kinda cool looking. There are 2 videos of it in action. Check them out.

i understand your concern, however i guess you have to take into account that there are only so many places on the front of your car they can aim the laser at (which is also a reason why that film stuff you paint over your headlights have been said to work great alone or in conjunction with a laser shifter).

True, but the concept behind it working is that when it senses the light from the gun it scrambles it by sending back it's own light (LED's). The Lidatek unit doesn't use LED's, it uses diodes to do the same thing. The problem comes in (with me anyway) if that tiny little box can cover the whole front of the car. When you're shot by laser, you could be shot at either headlight, front bumper, either turning signal, etc. So it's not just one place. If we lived somewhere that front license plates were mandatory, then I could see it because they'd shoot the front tag 99% of the time. But around here they can and do shoot all over the front of the car. So I'm just wondering if the Diode technology is so much better than the LED's to be able to cover the same amount of real estate in a much smaller package.

If you look at the link I put up above, there is a small video of how the M20 works while being shot. They shot it with nightvision type equipment and it shows you where the PD laser gun is pointing and how the LED's still "see" it eventhough they're not pointing it directly at them. It's kinda neat. Hopefully it works that well. I know I'm banking on it.

Really? Well, considering I grew up in L'ville, know lots of L'ville PD officers, and travel thru that area on a regular basis.....I can tell you that you're dead wrong. As a matter of fact, L'ville uses both regular radar and Laser. They love laser. Especially motorcycle police running radar traps on 29 near Central Gwinnett High and they LOVE to sit under the bridge between 120 and Sugarloaf, both directions. How would you know they don't use radar if you don't have a radar detector yourself?

BTW, define "articulate". What are you trying to say, because that doesn't seem to be the right word.
