Default I thought I was safe from spyware! DAMNIT!

So I was trying to install a codec to watch a video, and I was invaded! Damnit! I got most of it off but I can't figure out how to remove this fucking shit that keeps popping up on my screen! I can't find it in the registry. Help, please?

Ok here's what you wanna do.

    1. Download Spybot S&D as he suggested. Run it and remove whatever it finds.

    2. If you still have the same problem download and run Ewido Anti-Malware (http://www.ewido.net/en) It's a 14 day trial but it is some of the best software out there.

    3. After all of that if you are still having problems then I would try TrendMicro's Housecall It's Free and works well. http://housecall.trendmicro.com

    4. Now if for some awful reason you are still having problems then you have a deeper infection that is beyond normal cleaning. Which means more than likely your computer automatic update downloader has been hijacked and infected. In which case you would need to run HiJackThis (Find it on Google) save the log and post a copy here. From there I can help you better resolve your problem.

Hope this helps and keep me updated I am sure I can help you fix your problem.

*Edit* - Do you have a small icon where your Automatic Update Downloader would be? In the form of some yellow triangle with an exclamation mark or a Red Circle? If so this definately means you have been infected by the Smitfraud Exploit.

Ad-aware is also a good program to use to remove Spyware. We used that at school and it works great. You can get it from download.com

Hence the little edit at the bottom of my post. Anyway if it does turn out to be one of the MANY different infections of Smitfraud then you need to google for SmitRem.exe reboot your computer in safemode and run the program afterwards do all of your windows updates and rescan with the tools I mentioned.

Let me know if you still have problems,

Well I had already used Spybot S&D and the Trend Micro scanner before I posted this thread. I already have HiJack This (See Icon on pic LOL). As far as the icon in my tool bar, here is the pic of it. It is the blue question mark, and it flashes between that and a no sign (the circle with a line through it). Should I still go ahead and run Ewido Anti-Malware? You guys kick ass.

Definately looks like you have a case of smitfraud, so what you need to do is search for Smitrem on google. Unzip the contents into a folder you can easily get to. Then reboot your comp in safe mode and run it. After it gets done reboot and do all the windows updates you can. It should fix your problem. Let me know if it doesn't and I will try to help some more.

YOU NEED TO RUN THE SHIT IN SAFEMODE... RUNNING THAT SHIT AFTER YOUR INFECTED ALOT OF TIMES DOESN'T DO SHIT. DOWNLOAD THE LATEST UPDATES FOR BOTH SPYWARE SOFTWARE AND VIRSUS SOFTWARE. RESTART GO INTO SAFE MODE PRESS F8 WHILE BOOTING UP THEN RUN IN SAFE MOD. (IF YOU GET OPTIONS SCREEN JUST SAFE MODE, THEY HAVE SAFE MODE W/ NETWORKING, ETC...)

RUN THE SHIT AND THAT IS PROBABLY YOUR BEST OPTION OTHER THEN GOING IN AND DELETING THE SHIT YOURSELF.

um what would be the point of that? you would have to reinstall/reload anything you would lose. best option is to clean first.
