Default Computer Dummy needs help please

Hey everyone. I have a HP Pavilion a420n and I got DSL a few months ago and now it is going dirt slow. I have Alltel DSl and I have rebooted the router and tried to clean my computer a little bit. I also have Kazaa and I know that is a garbage program but it will not allow me to remove it. I have had my computer cleaned by a buddy about 6 months ago and did not replace my recycle bin and I cannot locate one on my computer but where is the shit I am deleting going to? lol.

What should I do? The computer ran great until about a week ago. Any ideas or should I try to purchase a new tower? The tower is only about 1-1.5 years old. Thanks!

reformat and reinstall xp if you dont have anything important or back up all the important stuff that you wanna keep.

I like avast, its free for home residential folks and it protects against virus' and some other spyware and the sort... and it doesnt take over your computer like mcaffey and norton does.

I am gonna take a different route on this one. I can tell you the steps you need to take to clean your machine however as mentioned a format and reinstall is probably the quickest and most efficient.

But here are my suggested steps.

    1. Download and run Spybot S&D (http://www.download.com) Remove any infections.

    2. Download and Run Ewido Anti-Malware (http://www.ewido.net/en) Remove any infections.

    3. After those 2 if the computer is still slow use Trendmicro's Free online virus scanner (http://housecall.trendmicro.com)

    4. If for some reason you are still slow then download a copy of HiJackThis (http://www.download.com) Run it and save a copy of the log. Take that log and copy and paste here and I can help you further.

There is no reason that you would have to go and buy a new machine because of a little virus or some spyware. You can easily fix your problem with a little patience, and the help of others.

Let me know if you get your problem resolved. If not I am here to help.
