i would venture to say it is because the stereotypical owner wants to be hard. (coming from a bully breed owner). now other choose them for the same reason anyone chooses any dog, because they like their looks/temperment/something. i got mine from a no kill shelter in dekalb (i was actually wanting a small dog, like a chihuahua or boston terrior) but they were desperately trying to get rid of beauxbeaux (they called her dixie) and i played with her and fell in love. everyone, without exception, that comes over to my house loves my dog. she is good with other dogs and loves people and attention. i have enjoyed her so much i am thinking about getting another bully breed dog soon. (or i am going to wait til i graduate and get a irish wolfhound.)
pits are great dogs. (roomate has one and my friends mom has two, my other roomates sister has 3) all of them are awesome dogs.

i had a lab growing up and now i have a pitbull, pitbulls have great personalities, they are extremly loyal and overall fun dogs to have, i by no means think i am a gangsta because i own one, they are just great dogs.

Owning a pit bull has nothing to do with being hard, or making you feel gangster. I have a pit bull and have had many other before him, they are very good companions if raised right, they also make for very good alarm systems. All in all they are bad ass and thats the only dog i will own. you guys stick to your poodles and weiner dogs leave te pits to the real men.

actually, pits (or almost any bully breed for that matter) are poor "watch dogs" or "junk yard dogs". they are USUALLY never aggressive to humans so their only use would be as a scare tactic. i love my pit/am bulldog mix. she is the nicest most personable dog i have ever met (and most any who has met her will say the same).
and clearly i dont have her to be gangsta. i mean, val, i am already as gansta as they come. haha.
Well the three pits that we own even the two pups are damn good watch dogs, you cant come in the house unless they let you in, like i said its all in how you raise them.
And i did not contradict myself any where in my post. I just said that they are bad ass dogs and it takes a certain kind of person to see that.
