Can it be Anti-Chrisitan if it is written by a Christian? Or will a "true" Christian interject his/her own Christian views to refute this Christian author? Is that Christian-like? Are the intimate details of Jesus' life more important than what he symbolizes? Are they one in the same?
Someone buy the book and put it in PDF.I'd like to read it. We can start a religious library.

I'd love to read what it says. I think his view in that blurb about Paul taking Christianity and forming it into what he viewed it as is misleading. Jesus gave them the grand commission, and that's what they did.
Back to work....
From what I have seen so far Mr Tabor relys heavily upon his own conjectures.
A big mistake.
He also makes the mistake of ignoring or dismissing a great part of who Jesus is.
This would lead me to a conclusion that he is honestly mistaken about much of what he projects as 'fact' or this is yet another attempt by mankind to force Jesus Christ into a mold more suitable for mans desires.
He also shows disrespect for God in his allegation that Paul basicly twisted what Jesus would have wanted "preaching a message based on his own revelations" The only way one can come up with this conclusion is that God is somehow too weak and powerless to protect the integrity of His Word AND incapable of inspiring His own apostles. That concept is rubbish. Fact is Paul preached the SAME message Christ did. I have the Book. I can read and see that for myself. I don't need Mr Tabors thoughts and ideas superimposed upon it any more then I need the popes "twist" placed upon it.
I would also add that Mr Tabor appears to making the same mistake as many others before him...picking and choosing which parts of the Bible he wants to agree with or dismiss in some fashion. To any rational thinker that should be a HUGE huge huge...red flag.

i think he is questioning the validity for possibly higher enlightenment... if things were so accurate in the bible where is everything it speaks of, why is faith always the answer, i personally dont think its far off to think that be bible too has been LOST IN TRANSLATION. there is not accurate account of even when it was written, and from what i read not only does he hold a PHD in theology, but he is one of the top experts on ancient text such as the Dead Sea Scrolls, i think things sometimes are hard for people to grasp if they don't hold such knowledge/insight.Originally Posted by metalman
All translations of the bible tell the same story. Minor words may change from one language to another, but to completely change the "moral of the story", don't think that's an issue.
Faith is always the answer because it always works, at least for me.
Why is it we question what was written in the bible but not in our history books?
Because we have Faith in historyOriginally Posted by Romeyo07
hows that answer? cause thats all i hear about the bible

Be it the story of Jesus or the story of Alexander the Great...it's written, passed down, and given to future generations. What's the difference?
The tomb where Jesus was placed is a highly visited place...Originally Posted by admin

I don't rely on faith to answer what I believe, it's in the bible.
yes his body was RESURRECTED, is that FAITH or FACT? oh that would be FAITH again, sorry thanx for playing.Originally Posted by Romeyo07

"Higher enlightenment"?? That would would make me burst out laughing if it werent so sadly ridiclulous. Mr Tabor has enlightenment or insights the Creator of Universe doesnt have??? Right.Originally Posted by admin

In order to fully appreciate the Bible truths one first would require a personal knowlege of the God who authored them.
The validity of Scripture isnt an issue for many because they have experienced its TRUTH and POWER. They have also seen its prophecys come true exactly to the letter. For those that havent experienced this all is probably confusing especially when learned men such as Mr Tabor add their conjectures further clouding the fog these poor souls are left in without a knowlege of God.
"If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" John 8:31,32
How true...not only free from the penalty of sin BUT free from confusion and false 'enlightenment'![]()
along with the rest of the people mentioned in the bible with the exception for the one who rose up from the dead. No one else in history has ever done so, which is why it's questioned. Would you believe the rest of the bible since everyone else is burried somewhere?

then if left in it's original form of old manuscripts would it be held to be more accurate?
Side topic - do you feel there is anything to gain from the bible?
nah man dont change the subject, make a new threadOriginally Posted by Romeyo07

i do not mean it should be left in the original form. as if history was treated like that, then it would still be a common belief that we treated the indians kindly, Germany was invited into poland and the holocaust never took place. what i mean is that people question the factual basis of the bible because there has never really been a huge mainstream research into it. What proof have u seen of the stories held within? even the "Artifacts" have not been verified as true, such as the shroud of turan. with history however, we have seen the result of the trail of tears, we have video and photographs of the destruction of the german invasion, and the bodies, mass graves, and places such as Aushwitz VERIFY the holocaust. the reason man questions the bible is because that is what we do. Our higher intellect than other life allows us to inquire and question, and we do so until we have a factual, physical collection of proof verifying the object in question. History has been proven over and agian, the same cannot be said for the bible, and until it is, it shall be questioned, as that is human nature.

On this note I must say I dont hold much with 'revisionist' history either.Originally Posted by cherry kool aid
I would characterize it more along the line of reviewing and revising history to be politically correct, more acceptable to special interest groups etc etc...NOT more accurate.
Screw all that...just the facts please.
Examples...you probably wont find any history book used in schools teaching about black soldiers who happily, willingly served the confedracy...yet that is true and they existed, entire regiments as I understand. Revisionists remove such items. Also you wont find much teaching of the facts pertaining to the roman catholic church butchering of millions during the dark ages...but that is also true and a fact.
For me give me the facts no matter how ugly, and the Scriptures no matter how convicting of the soul.

but on the topic of revisionists that u spoke of, who is to say the compilers of the bible did not do the same?

If I gave you an example of one of my experiences would that convince you?? Probably not.
Only by your own study, life experience, testing etc will you become convinced that the Bible is a factual Book, not a story book of fables.
In addition, accurate timeline of earths history is given in the Bible. Dan 2 for exmple. The evidences of prophecys should serve as some proof. But still your own experience will be the cincher.![]()

oh and please explain your "prophecys come true exactly to the letter" that can be proven more than your book or your warped idea of what is true.
there's a site that lists them all, but I don't remember where. Too much to list off the top of my head. I'll see if I can find it.
Like I always say...study for yourself. You can start with Daniel 2. There are many others. Both the prophecy and answers are given. Of course youOriginally Posted by admin
