    Default Hmm... 1911 content inside!

    Sup fockers!

I picked up another 1911 project. It hasnt made it to my door just yet. Should go in the mail on thursday and be on my door sometime on saturday or monday. I have been SEARCHING FOR A LONG time to find something that would be a good project to start with and not to much cost up front. I had one like this in stainless before and loved it. I sold it because I wanted one with an alloy frame. I bought it and sold it. Needless to say. I wanted another so here it is:

Springfield Armory 1911 Champion .45 ACP.

List of goodies the previous owner told me it has:
    -Full Length Recoil Guide Rod
    -Vioecki Trigger
    -Custom Night Sights
    -Extended Beavertail Grip Safety
    -Extender Slide Release
    -Commander Hammer
    -Flat Checkered Main Spring Housing
    -Lowered & Flared Ejection Port

ALOT of these parts will be coming off in order to replace and refit more parts. I already have a match barrel for it I have been holding on to for a while. I will not fit it until i get the rest of the gun where i want it. Here are some pics from the ad. These list for about $650-700.

pretty cool man. cheap too! Think the tangs will have to be welded up to achieve a good beavertail fit? Those sights are pretty crazy too. Cant wait to see what ya do to her!

I am thinking about it. Bobtail, more cocking serrations, checkering front strap, under trigger housing, and of course some more goodies. Refit a beavertail, smoothed mag chute, hmm.. much more of course.

i dig the polished flats too. I would love a stainless as my next build. I need to find out what media they use to blast the rounds that gives it the dark finish. Alox. maybe?

    Thumbs up

so what model is this thing exactly. Its quite strange in comparison to springfields current model line up. The dust cover looks like those from the early 90's springfields. any idea what year she is?

I am not sure the model year. I didnt even ask for a serial number to be honest. I didnt notice that many difference between this model and my early 2000 model stainless I owned before.

There will be a build thread for sure. I am thinking about switching back to checkering instead of scalloping? Not sure. I am putting together a huge list. First thing that will happen is taking it out and shooting it of course. Then I am going to just order a couple of small items here and there. Once I get her shooting like I like I will send it off for all ergonomic and cosmetic goodies.

I am trying to get some business models together for some up and coming ideas! Gonna be an on and off project!

I spent three hours typing up business proposals and info for my businesspartner. Now I have to draw up some site plans and do some more price shopping for the business and I think we will be set there.

I am working on picking up another truck. I have been looking for a nice reg cab dually turbo diesel setup but havent had any luck. There are a bunch of good deals out there but not one that is in my price range. I think I have found a nice little daily driver truck. A early 80's toyota 4x4. Its in decent shape and has had alot of recent service. The guy is interested in trading for my custom .17 and some cash so that will help cut costs down. I still have my trailer and a couple of other "goodies" i need to sell before i can start ordering parts for my new 1911 project. I have not had time to put a list of parts together yet.

Danny - have you started looking into finding a champion? if you find a nice lightweight around the same price pick it up and we can swap. once i get it in and start messing with the barrel and frame/slide i will send it up to you with the other goodies for a blasting. start putting a potential list together for your next project also that we talked about. I mentioned to my Business partner today about how we could squeeze another team mate into the mix. We still have alot of talking about it to do.

Ok Well I am pissed. The guy I was supposed to meet up about the truck bailed on me. After we arranged a meeting time i called him back and he said it was sold. LAME!

I thought people had manners around these parts? Anywho..

More money for the gun fund i guess.

Outstanding looking Springfield. Funky checkering/sights huh??

I like the checkering alot. I was actually doing research on those sights last night pretty late in the evening. Your eyes supposedly can see the site better because it takes in the little bit of depth perception to focus on both the front and rear siight. Anywho.. that might not make sense. i will go and find the site again on these sights.

I think I want to bevel my slide as well. I have never had one done that way. I love the flat top cut on top as well. Oh and those grips are sex!

I like the subdle accents of polished parts on the gun. Breaks up the contrast alot. I am trying to decide if i want to build a fighting gun out of this one or a nicer looking carry gun???

I just dont want to go to overboard and be dissapointed with how much i spend.

are those larry davidson grips ya think?

Looks like you need to buy a mill, so u can flat top the top side and chamfer the bottom of the slide.

I wanna build a sexy retro! Commander hammer, duckbill grip safety, mil sights, stippled FS (sayy whaaa lol), and some other goodies

Send me list of what you have in mind and lets get this started, haha.

I am working a deal on another nice champion for cheaper than what i got mine for. Guy wants to keep his grips and sights so that helps out alot on price!

Anywho.. I will keep you informed.

I think I am going to keep this one moderately priced and build a nice Colt Delta Elite 10mm stainless for a BBQ gun. Anyone know where one is for a good price thats willing to do some trading?

STI 2011 series pistols utilize double stack technology with the same width as a single stack with standard grips. AMAZING!

I got a buddy who just ordered a sti 2011 series and we went out tonight and shot it. AMAZING!

I have been a fan but nowi am on the bandwagon.

sti tactical 4.15 is going to be in the mail asap!

God that 1911 is so damn nice. Do you have anymore info on the gun? Where I can get one exactly like it? I searched some classic bobtails and all of them have different grips and different markings on the slide. Couldn't find any like the one posted.

"The 1911 is a collection of subsystems that must work together. Each part must be prepared and fit properly not only in and of itself, but also with regard to the other parts with which it must operate for the gun to function and appear as desired."

I found a lightweight. I will check over the champion when it comes in. Danny let me know if you have any interest at all in it. I would rather build the lightweight and I think I have my shotgun and custom 17 sold so a bbq gun is in the near future as well.

Leaving at 6am to go pick up a truck in south carolina and then off to help a buddy finish up putting hardwood floors in his house. Oh jOy!
