read that severns pistol shootout thread i posted and search his other entry level 1911 torture test.

I was very impressed with the taurus 1911 when it came out. They buy there frames from the same company some of the big name guys do as blanks. They are great shooters out of the box and can be built like others.

I have built several and i mean several 1911's since i started shooting. In my book any 1911 is better than no 1911!

i owned a taurus 1911 about a year ago, had it for a few months. it was a good gun overall the accuracy was damn good. the only thing i did not really like was the hair trigger and the slide would jam every time i would chamber it, all i had to do then was pull the slide back and release it and it would load. besides that it's a well built pistol for the price.

For plinking they seem to provide good value. But for a fighting pistol that will see hard use they leave a lot to be desired. Not to mention they are not a dimensionally correct 1911, making parts replacement/fitting and holsters a little bit more difficult.
"The 1911 is a collection of subsystems that must work together. Each part must be prepared and fit properly not only in and of itself, but also with regard to the other parts with which it must operate for the gun to function and appear as desired."

They had an article in American Rifleman(i think it was) on the Para 1911. Looked good, kinda plain, but fully customizable. Had good reviews and an awesome price tag. Here's a link if you wanna look into it.
