Default NEW PROJECT - Boat content inside

Well.. Where to start. I bought my little jon boat a couple of months back and never got around to working on it. It sat in the yard all cleaned up and ready for a tear down, but time was always lacking. I started a thread about a month back about my jacked up Ford getting shot up on WMA land. I finally got the insurance money in about 10 days ago. For about a month my wife and I had been looking for a project boat. We wanted something that was 16-19' in length, was a bowrider setup, and was cheap. We had decided that interior, minor mechanical, and cosmetic details were not as important as something that floated, ran, and was cheap.

We came across this boat on the macon craigslist. It had a not very descriptive post with an even worse looking picture. I emailed the guy and made arrangements to pick it up.

    85hp force outboard

Only thing I new about the boat when I got it was that it needed to be re-wired as there have been 2 different motors on the boat and there was 3 different wiring harness' on it. There was also misc wires for speakers, cig outlets, etc.. I pulled all the wires off the boat. Salvaged the most complete harness and went to work. Got everything cleaned up and ready to go.

Next I pulled out all the seats and side carpet. My wife and I had decided that we wanted to put all new carpet in the boat. Once it was gutted I soaked the carpet with water/purple power/greased lightning and pressure washed it clean. It was atleast cleaner. I had half a case of spray can interior dye laying in the garage from another project and decided to give it a shot. We want to wait on ordering carpet because we might go another direction with the floor on this boat. Building seats/ sun deck etc and didnt want to waste teh money right now. I have the side carpet all cleaned and ready to be spray glued back in.

Next we tackeled the boat seats. We bought some WISE boat seats from bass pro. We bought the middle level of seat because we had heard bad things about the cheap ones. I painted the fiberglass seat pedestals black and put new swivels under the buckets.

Next we bought all the necessary misc bs/safety/fuel/etc.. crap from Bass Pro tonight and spent about $350. We bought a new jack for the trailer. Rear pole white light, flare gun and flares, floating whistle, 2 good ski/wakeboard life jackets, 3 cheap orange safety life jackets, 1 floating cushion, cheap first aid kit, floatable locking waterproof toolbox looking thingy, fire extinguisher, and some other little odds and ends. We are going to try and get the boat in the water tomorrow. We have under $2k in the whole boat as it sits with goodies and all purchases. It should be a nice little river runner when we get it done. She has always wanted a boat and I never did. I figured what the hell.

    Comments welcomed.

Not bad, looks like it cleaned up really nice. I built my boat (16' bass) for under $800 and it will run 65ish in calm water. If you got any questions or need help with something let me know.

Piece of advice, go ahead and put a water pump and seal kit on the lower unit as well as changing the gear lube.

I meant to mention in the ad. I got reciepts from about $300 worth of new work on the boat. New water pump, impeller kit, seal kit, and prop. Good to go there. Thanks for the advice.

Ok good deal. Would hate to see you over heat and kill that engine because of a bad water pump. I need to take my advice and pump a pump on my engine that sat for 18 years.

Well I tore the t-stat out and flushed the motor today. Sucked some trash up into the impeller and was freaking out. Met a guy on the river one the first outing riding a jet-ski rocking a TOPSPEED sticker on it. Come to find out he owns the shop with his brother. Small world. He said that his ski will do about 72mph with his wake jumping prop and about 96 with his race prop. He rode beside us and with the crappy beat up prop she did 37=38mph. Not bad for about $1800 total with everything.

    HERE YOU GO!

well its the river but regardless it is fun. We took it out for an 1.5 hours today. it was a blast until it started lightning outside. We have decided to park it until we can get the rest of the interior upholstery done on it. I will start that project prlly tomorrow.

I finished the sun deck today. I need to buy different hinges but will do that this weekend. Getting ready for the kenny chesney concert on friday in jacksonville and picking up my new Suzuki DR650 project in daytona at the inlaws house. You dont even want to know how cheap it was.. haha.

    SUN DECK MATERIALS:
    1 - 1/2" Sheet Pressure Treated Plywood
    1 - 3/4" Sheet Pressure Treated Plywood
    4 - 2x4x8 Pressure Treated Wood
    1 - Box 2" Coated Outdoor Screws
    2 - Gate Hinges Coated
8 - Misc Stainless Steel Bolts, Nuts, Washers
    10yds of Vinyl
    4yds of 2" NuFoam Cushion

We got the vinyl and cushion at JoAnn's Fabrics in savannah for 40% off. Together it set us back about $110. All the wood and hardware was another $80ish. I spent about 10hrs on it total with measuring, cutting, recutting, etc..

Total Project Boat we are up to about $1950 with all materials, boat, safety equipment, seats, sun deck, wiring, oil, grease gun, grease, lights, blah blah blah.

I suppose we could of boat a nicer used boat for $2k but the wife now understands it takes work to have a project.

    PROJECT TALLY:
    Ski Boat = $1900ish
    1981 Ford F150 Longbed, 302, Auto, A/C = $400
    1995 Suzuki DR650. 1500miles. MINTY fresh on orig tires. = ???
    Bladerunner ISO FORCE Bow

Working on 2 AR15's for friends/clients. Only have a few days of leave left to get all projects done. I hope I have a productive weekend.

Went out on the boat again. Decided to head out to the inlet between osabaw island and st. katherines island. Supposedly there is some great fishing out here as well. There are tons of horseshoe crabs all over the beach. it was kind of neat. Brought the dog out with us. We had to buy her a doggie life jacket after her experience last time on the boat. She saw a buoy in the water and thought it was a toy. She launched about 10' off the boat for it. It was funny to me but the wife freaked out.

Anywho.. Enjoy the pics. I got my new fuel tank for the boat. Bought it off of here. Thanks again for shipping it to me. Saved us both I think in the long run. I plan on putting it in soon. One of my tanks sprung a leak and leaked fuel out all over the rear carpet. Now my whole garage and almost house smells like fuel. No good!
