My hubby (rickgiblin) attended the Autobody Collision Repair Program and I can tell you that he absolutely hated it and feels that it was indeed a waste of his time and our money.

From what he has told me, the instructors are crappy, and he learned more from working on his own stuff rather than attending classes.

my gwinnett tech experience was great. i enjoyed it but nothing really prepares you for mechanic life like being in the shop but as a theory and learning cars i enjoyed it even from the knowledge that i already had. so i can't speak for lanier but i enjoyed mine as much as i could!

Ive heard good things about the Auto Performance program. I personally know 3 different people that interned and were eventually hired onto race teams before they were even out of school.

Once I sell my car, pay off my new car, and get out of debt I'm going there for that program.

Do they call it Automotive performance now? I attended Lanier Tech for the Motorsports program. 2 internships are mandatory for the program. My second internship turned into a full time position for the team where I eventually became Porsche Crew Chief. I'll tell you right now there are a lot of dumbasses that attend Lanier Tech. Its all up to you. They will open the doors for you and the instructors are knowledgeable but if you don't want it they wont waste their time on you. In my opinion too many students (if you want to call them that) waste their time at Lanier Tech because they shouldn't be there in the first place. The program was pretty basic when I was there but thats been 5 years ago now and from what I hear it has expanded and changed a lot. If you are interested in WORKING in the racing industry I would recommend it. If you are a racing FAN I would not. Too many people can't figure that out...
Let me know if you want anymore info

    Hey Derek!
Here is some stuff Brian told me to tell you

If you get the degree you have to take the academic stuff unless you've already taken those courses somewhere else (Brian had already taken classes at Gainesville). Brian said HOPE paid for his classes and it's a 2 year program. 2 full time internships are required that you can find yourself or they'll find it for you (He did one w/the Richard Petty Driving experience). I think he said the internships are about 12 weeks long- like when he did the Richard Petty thing they got to live in a house w/other students in the same program. Brian says if you have a mechanical background though that you'll breeze right through it the program he took was Motorsport Vehicle technology. His favorite teacher is not teaching there anymore though By the way Derek, I think this would be great for you That's how Brian got his job at Comprent Motorsports-first he interned and then they hired him- and he really loved it- except now he's going back to school full time at GA State to get his bachelors in business b/c he wants to one day manage a team. But he got to travel all over the place, meet new people and have great experiences as well as networking with other teams. He met most of his bestfriends through work and internships -I'm making him sound gay by saying that but you know what I mean. I think this would really make you happy ANyways the website is www.laniertech.edu and he said it has a lot more information on it Good luck and keep me updated! Bye!

im taking automotive collision repair, it's alright. you learn most of your **** when you take your internships and do actual work at a real body shop, instead of working on your own vehicle. The only good part I guess is that you get to work on your own car if you please, you can do what ever to your car.

okay sounds good. ill be there tues around 12.

and no, but it is a very selective program. its like 25 ppl total. you have to know some about racing to begin with. and not just "WOO TONY STEWARY NASCARRRRRR". you have to have SOME sort of background in it and a good general knowledge of cars.

ditto...could have taken the whole class and learned everything they "teach" (they more or less just read straight from the book the entire class period) in a week.

**** lanier tech. I did everything to get into the damn motorsports program and **** last year and, I was told I needed to take some more classes (like welding, etc.), and then try again. Wtf, I mean I know i need background, but I have that IM not gonna take extra classes, just to learn it all over again in the course. Its some bull****. I was gonna transfer into that prog, so I dropped all my classes at Gainesville, then I didnt get accepted. Then I had no classes to sign up for. Being a great student, and having a 3.5+ gpa at the time with background with cars, and automotives. **** lanier.
