I disagree with this totally. In the context, if the black kids had pursued this through the proper channels, in all reality, the white kid would have probably had terroristic threats charges brought against him. Something I'm not particularly proud to admit is that in the early-mid '90s my brother was fairly stong in the local neo-nazi skinhead movement, he appeared on Montel Williams a few times on the 'racist' shows, and then later on a 'converted racists' episode. Anyways, back OT, one night, he and some buddies were riding around harassing people, during this he shot a black woman a bird, and yelled at her calling her a ni**er, she called in the tag number and he ended up doing 2 years in state prison. The point is: in all honesty, I feel both parties are at fault. The white kids for being racist morons, and the black kids, even though the punishment didn't fit the crime, they could have gone about it the proper way and avoided the situation altogether.

the point of the march and shit down there was to bring to light the injustice that goes on down there towards blacks. its been goin on for years, they have hundreds of cases out of jena that shows blatant racism. The last incident just was so ridiculious it got attention. And the school situation goes further back than just the tree incident, it was long history of unfairness towards the black kids at that school, and things goinback and forth between the white kids and black kids. noones debating the fact that they should be punished...But 22 years for a school fight? I bet everyone her can rememebr a fight in high school, or even a fight where soemone got jumped in high school it happens everyday.. but kids dont do time for that shit..
