The article on CNN today about this makes me ill.

    http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/law/09/20...six/index.html

First off, yes, rasicm exists but because someone possibly insulted you based on your race does not give you the right to beat the living shit out of them. Assault is a crime. It usually only considered justified if it is in self defense. These white kids never laid a hand on the black kids. If you beat the crap out of someone, there is a good chance you'll get in trouble no matter if they are the same race as you or not. It's ridiculous to think that it is okay to physically harm someone because of a possibly offensive gesture.

People say and do things that offend me (and I'm sure just about everyone else) every single day. You have to learn to just move past it. You can't react in a violent manner to everything that bothers you. If you feel that someone should be punished for their actions, you should go to authorities and if that authority doesn't help, find another one.... but you do not take it upon yourself to severely injure another human being without being ready to take the consequences.

    From the article

"If this can happen to them [the Jena 6] , it can happen to anyone," Scales said.
What? If they hadn't jumped the kid, nothing would have happened to them. Their punishment is nothing but a direct result of their CHOSEN actions.

"If this young man [Bell] was railroaded to do time as an adult, how many more people has that happened to?" she said.
Oh... so he's a minor so he should get away with it. He's old enough to know right from wrong yet he shouldn't be punished for this. Ooooo k.

"I hope that the D.A. will wake up and realize that he's doing the wrong thing, and to release these kids," she said. "It's not equal. The black people get the harsher extent of the law, whereas white people get a slap on the wrist per se. So it is not equal here."
They beat the shit out of a kid! The white kids hung a rope from a tree. There is a slight difference here. You want them locked up too? Well, assualt is a crime, when knot-tying or unneccessary tree decorating becomes a crime, they'll be arrested as well.

Sure, the white kids should not have done what they did but you know, kids do shit like that. I know when I was in high school, groups had certain areas around the outside lunch courtyard that were theirs. They sat there every day and that's how kids are. Kids fight over dumb shit. I'm sure there were kids in my school that would have said something offensive or acted like they wanted a confrontation if someone was in their "spot" one day. In this case, if it was a group of fat kids, they probably would have hung up some twinkies, it's likely they were just trying to rile up the other group and get them to stay away. Are they racist? Maybe... I don't know them but it still doesn't mean you can beat them up.

People need to start focusing on real racism and not stupid things done by stupid kids. People get annoyed and apathetic about it when every single thing is labelled as racist. It does nothing but hurt the real issue.

The waking incident that caused this ordeal was racist, period. Comparing twinkies to nooses is ridiculous.

Kids in highschool fight over the stupidest shit and I don't condone fighting. The thing is when most kids fight in school they don't get pressed with ridiculous charges. There've been cases where kids in fights end up with comas, collapsed lungs, broken bones, etc.. yet the victim this time has injuries nowhere near to have merited murder charges for the agressors.

Are you people failing to see the vast unjustness these black kids faced? Now that the town's under light do the charges change. Please give me a reason other than racism as to why these kids were going to be charged with attempted murder.

I do not agree with you nor am I going to sit here and argue about it.

Oh... and it wasn't a comparison, it was just a silly example to make a point.

    this is fucking stupid.

the white kids fucked up to begin with but the black kids fucked up by beating him up.

hanging a noose from a tree is not illegal. maybe to al fucking sharpton or jesse jackson.

    http://www.whileseated.org/photo/003244.shtml
In September 2006, a group of African American high school students in Jena, Louisiana, asked the school for permission to sit beneath a "whites only" shade tree. There was an unwritten rule that blacks couldn't sit beneath the tree. The school said they didn't care where students sat. the school CANNOT say that the black kids couldnt sit under the. tree they just saved their own ass. The next day, students arrived at school to see three nooses (in school colors) hanging from the tree. (Please note, the tree above is not the tree, but a tree at Jena High School.)

The boys who hung the nooses were suspended from school for a few days.sounds like a suitable punishment to me. after all hanging ropes from trees isnt illegal and im sure that theres no school rule relating to it..... The school administration chalked it up as a harmless prank, but Jena's black population didn't take it so lightly. Fights and unrest started breaking out at school. The District Attorney, Reed Walters, was called in to directly address black students at the school and told them all he could "end their life with a stroke of the pen."he probably should have addressed everyone.... but i guarantee you that it wasnt the white kids that kept this argument going...

Black students were assaulted at white parties.i dont know about yall but ive never seen a "whites Only" sign hanging from the door at a party.... A white man drew a loaded rifle on three black teens at a local convenience store. (They wrestled it from him and ran away.) Someone tried to burn down the schooland this someone is? i can take a guess..... , and on December 4th, a fight broke out that led to six black students being charged with attempted murder. To his word, the D.A. pushed for maximum charges, which carry sentences of eighty years. Four of the six are being tried as adults (ages 17 & 18) and two are juveniles.

Yesterday, I was in Jena for the first day of the trial for Mychal Bell, one of the Jena 6. The D.A., perhaps in response to public pressure, tried to get Bell to cop a plea. Bell refused, and today, jury selection began. After today, we'll know whether or not the case will be tried in front of an all-white jury. Jena's 85-percent white, and it remains to be seen whether or not the six can get a fair trial.

yeah it was racially motivated, but it should not have been taken this far.

What do the KKK, Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson have in common?

They're ALL RACIST and should be wiped off the face of the Earth.

BTW, Dominikant, just because a noose is hung, DOES NOT mean somone is going to be hanged from it you idiot. As a matter of fact, i made a little noose out of some packing twine here at work.... does that mean im going to hang someone? lol

There is NO unjust going on there. What they did was clearly wrong, and they know it. The real racist people are saying the kids shouldnt be punished.

I would be so much more willing to listen to some people's opinions if they could type in anywhere near proper grammar.

Anyone who thinks that slavery or racism started with or has been only continued by white people needs to seriously do some reading about the 1000's of years that slavery has existed and the countless acts of genocide committed by just about every race on this planet.

    BTW, Dominikant
You've proven to be an idiot time and time again. Your sentences are hard to read and what you have to say doesn't make much sense.

I'm sure the white kids hung the noose because they were depressed and were going to hang themselves. That'd make a good arguement.

All race issues aside what happened to being able to give or take a good ole fashioned ass woopin in school without the law being involved. Wussification of america..

Again if you throw race out of the equation, the situation escalated to the fight. I can't lie if you catch me on the wrong day and hang some nooses from a tree at my job I'm not exactly going sing coombaya with you.

Okay throw race back in it.. its good to know blacks can still come together peacefully for a cause that they believe in. Did the kid need to be beat down? No but I do think it is malicious to charge them with attempted murder especially when its provoked.

But its whatever.. this board is full of people who think all black people do is pull the race card and that we live in a perfect and just world.

If you're big enough to say it.. be big enough to accept the ass beating with it. I'm sorry but I am not going to go into a group of hispanics spewing racial slurs.. know why? Cause I'll probably get killed.. dude should consider himself lucky and he's a punk ass if he feels he's the victim here. Retaliation is wrong BUT I bet he wont do it again now will he?

This issue has been addressed in black media for months now.. this did not just happen. People like Steve Harvey, Warren Valentine, Tom Joyner have been getting the word out on their shows and creating an awareness. There are other blacks in the media.. but people give so much attention to Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton that they're too jaded to realize it.

The thing is they don't go out and actively target white people nor provoke them to the extent that white racist people do.
~cut~ ~paste~The Aryan Brotherhood originated in San Quentin prison in 1967. Originally, this gang was established to provide protection for White individuals from Black and Hispanic groups, most specifically the Mexican Mafia.

So in a way, if blacks and hispanics weren't so mean in prison and would get teh buttsecks from their own race.. The world would be a better place. Problem is, there are some blacks who only want the white meat.

Since we've strayed from the topic many years and miles away let me re-cap my original argument/debate.

The sentence for the first of six black boys was unjust. I believe race had to do with the exaggerated sentencing. I believe the other five boys would have received similar sentences had the media and national attention not been garnered.

That is all, label me ignorant, stupid, a cunt or what ever the fuck you want but I know what's happening in Jena, Louisiana is wrong.

Here i'll help you out with a timeline.

1444 First public sale of African slaves in Lagos Portugal
1482 The Portugese build the first permannt Slave trading post in what is now Ghana, it handled 30,000 slaves a year.
1510 The first slaves arrive in the Spanish colonies. So Hispanics owned Afircan slaves before we did. Hmm.
1518 The first shipment of slaves arrives in the Americas. 74 years after the first Africans were taken. Oh no, there goes the neighborhood.
1562 John Hawkins becomes the first English man to trade in slaves. So 118 years after African slaves were taken, We get our first dedicated and known slave trader.

I think your anger needs to be aimed elsewhere. Lets get some Portugese hatred going in here.

Slavery alive and well in Brazil NEW!
Although slavery officially ended in Brazil in the latter half of the 19th century, it continues unofficially now in the 21st century. A recent report from the Folha de Sao Paulo revealed that today over 10,000 workers live in conditions of slavery. Most of those cases are in the North and Northeast parts of the country. In the state of Para alone, the Ministry of Work has received 75 complaints which involve some 3,000 workers, double the number of persons from last year's report.

Brother Henri des Roziers, the coordinator of the Catholic Church's Land Commission in Para, says that he calls daily to the Ministry of Work office to demand that the government investigate these cases. "What they tell me is that the investigations, which already were few in number, have been suspended because of lack of funding," commented des Roziers. Employees of the Ministry of Work recently reported to officials that their teams of investigators (which were formed as a result of international pressure) have been dismantled. They also reported that when they had teams, investigation was very difficult as the regional governmental officials barred or made very difficult their work.

In Para, slave labor is utilized in the lumber and cattle industry. Recruiters go to various points in the cities and promise a salary of R$400 (US$275) per month. As the workers are already in a state of misery, they accept the offer and go, not even knowing that they are already in debt for the trip to the locale of employment. Once they arrive, they find that they have to buy food at exorbitant prices and soon accumulate more debt. They are threatened with death if they try to flee. Most of the sites are far away from roads and highways, making coming and going very difficult. Besides hard labor, the workers also live in subhuman housing conditions, often lack potable water, and lack nutritious and sufficient food.

But the problem is not limited to Para. Tocantins, Maranhao, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Rio Grande do Sul: all have serious cases of slave labor pending. In the city of Sao Paulo there is even a case of enslavement of undocumented Bolivians who have come to Brazil in search of employment. According to the report, two problems exacerbate slave labor: high unemployment and impunity for those who exploit the workers. Between 1995 and 2002, the government has freed 4,900 "slaves." Over 1,000 have been freed this year alone. However, more often than not, the landowner or employer simply goes in search of more workers and repeats the actions. To date, not one "employer" is serving time in prison for exploitation of workers.

To date, not one "employer" is serving time in prison for exploitation of workers.

    slavery is eveywhere.

I'm in New Orleans today and this is the top story in the city. There were bunches of buses that filled up this morning in NO to go to Jena. There's a rumor that lots of them were paid with either free food or cash. Who but the unemployed would have time to get on a bus on a Thursday morning to a little podunk town in the middle of nowhere for a day? From some of the interviews and comments on the local stations I'd bet 95% of the people protesting have no idea what the chain of events are.

Whether you agree with the issue or not, it's comical to watch 60,000 out of town people infiltrate a city like Jena which only has 3,000 residents. Guess everybody's looking for their 10 minutes of fame.

Dominican. You have been weighed, you have been measured and you have been found wanting.

You debate is pointless. They are criminals, evidence has been looked at. It has been proven (In your home country now it seems) that blacks enslave other blacks and now you are just shooting blanks into the wind.

As Paul Harvey would say, "and THAT is the rest of the story" Good day.

My debate is pointless? Please provide me with an outline of my debate and your counter-points. Do you even know what my original debate was about?
