noob to motorcycles/bikes, but i want one

yeah, im a 100% noob to anything with motorcycles, but i want to buy one.

looking for under 6k, i will have 1k to put down and finance, i would love to have a gsxr600, but i heard somewhere it is good to start on something smaller. i figure i could start on anything, but that is my budget and i dont want to start on something old and well, slow. given that it would still be faster than most cars, im looking for something that is still respectable.

so im up for any tips, advice, what i might buy within that budget and what to expect if i ever do buy one. please go easy/no flaming, im only here to get educated. and yess i will be doing some research.

im new to it too and just bought a 06 yamaha fz6. (yesterday as a matter of fact). i like it alot so far its quick, it has the same motor as a r6 with a few things different. and really easy to ride. and there very fairly priced. just my opinion

so much that im regretting making this thread. and i talked to my dad, who has ridden since he was a kid, and also led the motorcycle squad for APD for some time. but he said he would teach me.

Well dude i have ridden 4wheelers all my life and i got my 1st bike last yr at this same time i got a 2002 gsxr600 and i love it to death but its a very unsafe place out there for bike's but i think it is more fun when u learn how to really ride and feel good doing so.


NOw my thaughts on it is get a gsxr600,cbr600rr,r6,zx6r cause if u get anything under a 600 in about 2 months u will sell it if not before that^^ I want a bigger bike but i am going to stick with the 600 for stunts and mtn riding''Oh and hit me up when u get 1 i might be getting my new bike in the next little bit and i am slow in the mtn's so your welcome to join.

ive always heard that a ninja 500 or suzuki sv650 is a great starter bike. yeah you will grow out of it, but it will help a lot.

There are always the exceptions to the rule, but note it is still a rule one should take note of. Sure there are people who can start on a 600cc bike and be straight but then again there are people who can barely start on a sv250 and end up riding that for some time before they feel comfortable enough to move up, and theres nothing wrong with that at all. I'm not going to sit here and preach to you like a lot of riders do but you should definitely ride numerous bikes before you buy, more goes int buying a bike than just budget and engine size. (ie. comfort, size, etc.) Me, I learned to ride on a gsxr750 and thats when i didn't know there were different engine sizes and what not. it was the only bike i felt comfortable on and it was the first bike i rode. not the first i owned though, it was my friends. even then i'm going to be buying a gsxr600 hopefully at the end of next month.

cliff notes: buy what you feel the most comfortable on, don't rush and take your time.

Okay I own an 04 r6 and when I bought it I couldn't even take it home from the dealership. They had to deliver it for me LOL. Within maybe half an hour I was on the streets. If you know how to operate a clutch and have utmost respect for the bike then you can get on anything you want even a 1 liter bike. The bike can only go as fast as you want it to go. It's all about throttle control. Now becoming well equiped on a bike is another story which will take some seat time. If a ladder fell off a truck right in front of you on the hwy, what do you do? When you get experiance then you will have the tools to maybe save your life in dire situations. You know what they say "it's not the bike, it's the rider". Just remember throttle control and to respect what that bike can do. Go at your own pace. Also don't have false confidance of what you think your abilities are. You might want to look into an MSF course or something.

ive noticed in my learning. this is my second day on a bike. leaning is a BITCH. natural instinct tells u to keep the bike upright and balanced, but u have to lean it through curves. i can lean to the right fine, but for some reason i cant lean left for shit. i guess its just a mental block

Weird, people usually have trouble with right handers. Just take it slow and you'll get used to it.

definitley take the MSF course, i heard you can skip the riding part of the test if you do this course, also the insurance goes down?

just buy a used 600 itll be worth it maybe even one thats been dropped so just incase you do drop it it was already damaged...i learned how to ride on a cbr600 and thats all ive been ridin plan on moving up to a 900 but im still in love with my 600... but gl with what ever you decide and yes take the course!!!

i doubt the course just for time purposes. i can get my dad to teach me . he said he could show me some shit the average person would not know, not sure what that might entail but i believe him. plus it would be good since we both have flexible scheduling, and i would just personally rather have my dad there.

i would go for the kawasaki but i dont have that kind of cash handy, even though i would still offer you less than what you are asking. i will have a fair down payment ready and monthly payments for a gsxr600 i decided.

Take out a good life insurance plan before you buy one! i rode my friends 04 cbr600rr that was pretty sweet bike.
