Ubuntu is a great distro...its actually a high recommended version for newbs that want to learn how to run their own webserver/fileserver/etc. Really if your wanting a really easy system without windows problems i would start shopping for a mac. Prices have dropped considerably and its much easier than any linux distro out there. I made a living as a computer tech for a couple years and ran Fedora core as my distro and liked it until i got my hands on my mac. Haven't looked back.
