I dont know alot about the breed and I know the media puts ALOT of doubts in peoples heads on them, I have a lady who I work with who has 4 pits and one was rescued from dig fighting, It was the bait dog that was used for bigger dogs to attack to get better at. And she says that dog is so sweet, BUT I hear of Pitts turning on thier owners awith no warning to, so I dont know what to think about the breed but I do know they dont deserve to be used for peoples amusement to kill eachother.

from what i understand inbreading is the cause of the dogs being uncontrollable, if you can get a pure bread then i dont think there would be a problem with the dog

That's where most people go wrong. They think that just because you raise a dog as if it were in heaven, that the dog will never attack. Raising is a big part in a dog's temperament, but certainly not the deal. Later, QD.

I love pits. I think they're gorgeous dogs. The problem (as stated above) is negative public representation. I don't care what anyone says, ANY dog can just 'snap' and turn on it's owner. It's all about how you treat the dog, and how it was raised. They say the same about rotts and dobermans as well, but I've had the same rottweilier since I was 10, as well as a few others and they've never given us any trouble.

^^.. and they go for the throat and have I think over 100 pounds per square inch of pressure in thier jaws, they are not a typical dog that can be pulled off thier prey (Human or not)

Not true. Pit's have very muscular jaws, but they don't "lock" in any way.

THANK YOU. Everyone and their brother thinks that pits can lock their jaws.. they don't. But they can bite with a total of almost 1500 lbs of pressure... not an easy feat to open those back up.

Pits are great animals, just very unforgiving. If you hit a pit, they will not forget it. Not like they will sit and plot revenge or anything, but if you raise your hand to hit them and do, they will remember that you did that. Therefore, if you raise a hand to them again, whether it's to actually hit them or just messing around, they will remember that the last time you did that, you hit them. Most dogs cower and respond to something like that with fear... they will tuck tail and run. Pits are, in their essence, hunting and aggressive dogs. They have had hundreds of years of training, originally used as bullbaiters. No matter how well you raise the dog, their bred in instinct doesn't go away. So when they see you raise that hand, even if you're saying "hey buddy! Wanna go outside?", they perceive it as a threat and react. With pits, you just have to be very, VERY aware of your actions around and towards them, because they don't forgive and forget like most dogs do. They're great, great dogs, and I love 'em to death, but they are given a bad rep, and it's because people think they can treat them like any other dog, and don't bother to do any background research on the breed. Not just pits, either.. rottweilers, dobermans.. all of the "aggressive" dogs are the same way.

What it boils down to is that potential owners of pits, and any breed for that matter, need to research the breed before they get one. The internet's right there.. just do a google search for the behavior patterns of the dog you're interested in. If you want a pit, there's stuff you need to know. Hell if you want a jack russell, there's things you need to know. Silly people can't take 10 minutes to do a little research about a dog breed before they get one. *eye roll*

Fuck stance. Stance is for kids in skinny jeans with Justin Beiber haircuts. You don't need stance when you got swagger.

my healthy pit is only 50 pounds.... not all are huge and muscled up...

mine is very muscular.. but lean. and it knows damn well I CAN and WILL control it. i'll admit, they are stubborn... but just like any other stubborn male dog, you've got to show it who the "alpha dog" is. my pup knows when i give him a tug on the scruff of the neck, to follow me... or if i get in a certain tone, it had better listen.

anyways... Amanda was in the AJC in an article called "Pros and Cons of pitbulls" or something like that. Thats how i found this stuff. ya'll should look it up. it's a decent read. and kinda gives a bit of insight on the breed.

and i'm sure her site has much more!

A full blooded Pit Bull terrier should be between 35-50 pounds. These massive pitbulls you see are due to Backyard Breeders or other breeders who only care to breed for cosmetic reasons.

My cat bites the shit out of me. She is so bossy, I swear!

Anyways, I love Pits! I am trying to get Dan to buy me one as we speak (he says no but I keep trying anyways). I want a blue Pitt. They are so pretty! Lots of my friends have pits and that are very friendly and happy-go-lucky.

Wow gonna bite my tongue on this.

Anyways I've had pits, canes and presas. Its the owner that makes a god nice or not. I've seen angry fighting wanna be sheep dogs. Also take ANY dog and make its life outside on a chain constatenly and a cocker spaniel will turn mean and aggressive not to mention very territory like

trust me the dog is ripped... he's just not a big dog... he is skinnier than he should be, i'll admit. a friend is taking care of him and he's outside all day running... so he's running all of his weight off.

PITS are not bad dogs, i have had them all my life with no problems, some were full blooded and some were not some around thirtylbs most between 65-120lbs

they dont make bad dogs they just get unlucky and have bad owners and thats what causes the bad press and rep

When I had pitts I would pretty regularly stare them down... they never really did anything "bad" persay, like peeing on the floor or anything like that, so I honestly never really had to discipline them too much. But every once in a while, Max especially (the male), would lock eyes with me in a quasi-challenging nature, so I would lock right back and stare him down.. once I had to stand up before he backed off. That was always the most effective for me. Having a brother and sister, they would definitely try to "gang up" on me, but they were never aggressive to me, and the only time they showed aggression was when someone broke into my shed, they went through the sliding glass door and attacked him, but didn't really "attack" persay.. they had him on the ground and Max bit the living hell out of his thigh, but overall, a guy on the ground with two pissed of pit bulls, I think he came out pretty well.

    I miss them.

those dogs are normally the aggressive ones.... the owner just wants the dog to be rough just for the image.
