Default New Old beater to take to the office. Meet Ron.

Starting a new job in a couple months, it's a 80 mile round trip so I wanted to drive something a little better on gas than the Suburban.

1989 Camry... 5 speed. 139,000 original one owner miles. Needs a few things here and there but overall I'm pleased as punch.

Wow that shit is clean. Even the bay. Although I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that isn't the original alternator. I guess this was a good weekend for old toyotas. I picked up an unusually clean one myself.

LOL... Yeah the alternator is very new.

What did you pick up? I have a feeling is not nearly as pedestrian as mine.

Another old toyota sedan, a 79 cressida. I beat you on grandpa points but you definitely got me on gas mileage. Those camrys are pretty much bulletproof too. Amir used to have one for years. Nicknamed it "Champ" because it wouldn't go down.

Proper name you have given it. I almost hopped on a light blue one a few months ago. They're such great little cars.

So in the mail is another interior door handle (one is broken), Driver window switch assembly (all windows work, just not from switch), and some rims... Stepping up to some 15's though, like I always say... If you're going to do it, do it relatively mediocre.

So today I had to run a few errands... Took Ron, decided this was a good time to "blow the carbon out" (you car guys know what I'm sayin'). The A/C was so-so at best anyway, but it would do... Not anymore. Motor started dragging down at 4.5k rpms and then I heard it.

    Gravel...

From the A/C compressor. ~sigh~ And it got warm.

Good news is they are relatively cheap... Bad news is... Well there is no bad news as I don't need to use this car for a couple of months.

Thought about the GID paint like my did BBS's... But the paint would cost more than the rims.

    I know, I know.

    Needs more low...

And I need to figure out why it won't rev much past 5k. Redline is 6 but it sounds like it's struggling anything past 4k.

Those seat covers need to go as well. They might be on the to-do list tomorrow.

So I've done more stuff since I was here last. Runs like a champ now... New timing belt, water pump, A/C compressor, distributor, B&G lowering springs with KYB shocks, new suspension bushings and various other small things I'm forgetting. Anyway, turn the radio the 97.1 and this thing is a freaking time machine to 1991.

Thought the grill looked better black.

Because of the fenderwell... Slamming isn't really an option on these. You can try, but tucking is realistically the best you can hope for. You will never be Hellaflush without more work than the car is worth.

For that, I am grateful. I like my little 80 mile-per-day commuter car.

Got some new rubber on it the other day. Went from 195/65/15 to a 205/50/15. This car is geared so freaking tall I figured a smaller diameter tire couldn't hurt, and I was right. Discount Tire in Loganville put them on and they are the bomb. In and out in 45 min and didn't try to up sell from what I wanted.

If you don't know, now you know.

Washed it today and sadly vacuumed it for the first time since I bought it... I'm so lazy.
