    Default 88 conquest TSi project

Just picked up a new garage ornament/tool bench/project.

It's an 88 with a 16G, motor is 2 years old, ghetto sound system, with 156k on the dash.

Any of you starquest guys can feel free to add some input. It's not a beauty queen but is solid and 95% rust free.

    Thanks Mike!

Only problems so far are the wipers will randomly come on, ant infestation, rear CV boots are ripped, and a small oil leak coming from somewhere. Too grimey underneath to tell exactly where. All very minor things.

Im thinking olive green for the new color b/c this paint is terrible.

Olive green will look good on it. The conquest we use to have leaked oil from
the oil filter adapter. Almost like the adapter o-ring isues on the jeeps. Good
place to start. Good luck with the wiring its a dodge.

Cool thanks Mike! I will check there. Gonna have to do as much as i can rebuilding the old parts on it as the new parts are harder and harder to find. Just read how to rebuild the CV axles on it. Starquest guys are great for finding cross referenced part numbers.

Wipers are an easy fix...just going to remove the fuse for them as i dont really plan on driving this in the rain. I'll just slap some rain-x on it and call it done!

I did this in the conquest my moms boyfriend had. First time driving it in the rain and wow it caught me off guard and went around pulling out of work. Good thing it was midnight and no one saw it. Worst part is I tried to spin it back around to go the way I needed to go and went all the way around again. Kinda fun.

Thats what happened to the one my moms boyfriend had. Blew the head gasket and he pulled the motor to "upgrade it" and it sat in the yard for years. As far as I know its sitting behind his friends house with the motor still sitting in boxes in the back seat. I repeatedly offered to buy it from him and he wouldn't sell it. I wanted to drop a built 302 in it and strip it out and turn it into a street legal drag car.

If and when this motor goes, I will drop in a v8. No sense in messing with another ultra complicated, problematic motor.

Car looked good sitting at that red light today. That yellow is bright in the sun light I saw you from way up the road and as soon as I saw it I knew it was a conquest and it was you. Only yellow one I've ever seen.

Sorry for the sound of my exhaust I know you thought wtf that sounded like shit. Crappy ricer exhaust I can't wait to replace it.

    Hey thanks, me too!

Update: drove 3 hrs today to see how everything performs and I have found out that there is garbage in the gas tank. Needs a new one and probly pump, filter, injectors, etc. cuts hard at WOT and is pretty annoying.

Cleaned out all that bullshit stereo system tonight. Probly removed 150lbs of box, speakers, and wires. Trunk is nice and clean now.

Just gotta figure out a solution to the massive hole in my dash now. Looking forward to picking some of you old schoolers brains about this motor. I have a ton of questions and don't wanna start tearing into shit with out consulting with those who are far more knowledgeable. Hopefully I could show one of you the issues and it would be easy fixes/adjustments.

Questions = the reason forums exist, Shoot away!

That car is pretty fun with minimal add ons, you probably already have most of it done. I'd get the big injectors, a piggyback or a megasquirt box, and get it tuned as is on the 16G setup (if you have an exhaust and decent IC/piping.) They are pretty cool at ~250whp, which you can probably make. Do you know if yours has LSD?

    All of them has LSD
Motorwise i wont recommend you to tamper with it if is running good the g54b is a temperamental powerplant that dont like to rev high, in order to do so you need a solid lifter valvetrain setup and a custom cam, then change the poor EFI system for a 4 injector setup, but when you get to that point you figure out u spend more than u want and find out you could do way better with an LS 5.3 GM engine with a turbo and spend less, at that point you will be pissed off stay away from the MEGA SHIT ECU engine management, by the time you finish and is working properly you spend more than buying a Haltech, fueltech, AEM or microtech brand real ECU system that gives you years of trouble free service without head aches,

It is a nice car and one of the best platforms from the 80's Japanese sports cars if not the best, i have been there and hade like 9 of them all the way up to 450 whp and low 10 seconds 1/4 mile E.T.'s on them,

So my advise is get yourself a nice 5 to $700 yukon or tahoe LS based 5.3 V8 a good size turbo and injectors, a good Fueltech ft350 ecu and a nice stick shift trany for it while you still got it in running condition and when you got everything go for the swap u wont be disappointed and with more power with less money you can get!

Thanks Juan! That is probly this cars future.

Hasan, I just need it to run while I save fun and gather parts for an LS swap. Needs suspension and drivetrain attention first. Give me a call if you are in the Cobb area and maybe we can meet up and I could show you In person how it behaves.

I will hopefully see you guys at the next vintage meet.

Was true ~5 years ago, not any more.

Nathan, Juan is for real an OG when it comes to these... He knew the owner and helped on the sakura starion iirc, Google it

i kinda agree, but at the same time if the car wasn't as temperamental, I wouldn't know half of what I know about cars now. (Not saying I know anything now, but still)

it's worth the journey, just make sure it isn't your DD is my only advice.

When it comes to cars, I would take anything Juan says to the bank. I would love to get out to his house one day and learn some cool shit from him. Hell I was gonna buy that little corolla from him but with a move on the horizon I was shut down.

I plan on this being a long term project Hasan. I got a big van I drive daily so we are all good there. Now that I'm in the new place I can afford to have a project, just have to save money and be patient. This is a learning experience for me as well. I'm tired of trading cars every 3 months. Lol
