Default Anyone good with Weber downdrafts? '79 Civic content.

I just bought a '79 Civic 1200 last night in that is having a rough time running right. It does well when at 50% throttle or more, but that won't work to get it home.

It's got some aftermarket electronic pulsator fuel pump on it, so that's my first suspect causing it to run rich; the pump keeps running even with the engine off. Will the OEM style mechanical pump even work with the Weber carb?

The car runs, it's just a bitch and a half to drive around and you have to have the choke on the first notch to keep it running at all.

    Oh and pictures as required

The OEM pump should work with the Weber.

If you can't find an OEM pump, I am pretty sure I gave a guy named Bryan a box of about a dozen of them when I sold him my '79. His shop is in Gwinnett, and he posts on the 1st gen Honda forums every once in a while.

Other than it loading up from too high fuel pressure, check that your timing is right, and make sure there are no vac leaks (those Weber adapters will leak unless you loc-tite the screws that attach them together and to the manifold).

Say, you guys wouldn't have any names of those shops there would you

I'm planning on getting it running right to drive everyday, then dig all of the bondo out of the roof channels and probably find a way to delete this sunroof as well.

Checking the timing ought to be fun; I haven't held a timing light since I owned my '80 wagon 10 years ago

It's a 1200. Did Jackson Racing make a 4-1 header that DIDN"T come out through the grille? I think I remember seeing one, but can't confirm. This one has some kind of 4-1 header on it that's getting pretty rusty.

From what I can tell, it's a Weber DGEV 32/36, and from what I've read they don't like much more than 3lbs of fuel pressure before the floats are overpowered. Looking down into the carb, you can see fuel dripping when it's idling. Meh. I guess I will have to build some kind of pressure regulator for it or just wait on an OEM pump to get here

Yeah it doesn't take much. The generic electric fuel pumps most people use for conversions will blow right through a needle valve. Happened to me many times.

OK, so does anyone recommend any shops around Atlanta that would be able to get this carb working correctly? I have opened it up, cleaned it, replaced parts, and I STILL can't get the primary to stop pouring fuel into the manifold at idle.

has a vacuum leak at the bowl? Possibly. I am not an expert. But I had this problem with mine, except mine is a holley. The bolts the hold the float bowl wasn't sealing up the bowl, causing a vacuum leak, causing fuel to be pulled through at idle.

    Tired of messing with it:

From what I understand, the Holley and Weber carbs are essentially the same. It has a new gasket between the halves of the float bowl, but it could be leaking. I dunno. CarbJunkys is pretty freakin expensive; you can find a new 32/36 on ebay for maybe $50 more than that

Haha yeah, I guess I could just drive it out to Conyers. I really hate to drive it while it's pouring gas like this though.
