Default 74 Celica, a future project.

This is my moms 74 Celica she drove in high school. They quit driving it in 88 because it broke down, don't know exactly what from, and has been sitting for the past 20 years. I'm reposting this from the car pics section...so yeah.
The interior is in almost perfect condition, minus the obvious signs of aging as you will see in the pics. The engine is locked up, obviously, and my dad says it wouldn't take much to get it running but shit if I know, I'm a total noob with all of this. But yeah, I figured I would post pics. P.S., my basement is a mess, yes I am aware!

You've mentioned in the other thread, that you don't know where to start. First thing is first, get the motor running, the other fun stuff can come later. Goodluck and don't give up, it will be sweet when it's done and on the road.

I wish i had one of those in the basement! Are you totally sure the engine is locked? i'd bet that it could run with maybe a few small parts. I wouldn't break it down to much, just fix it/cleanit drive it.

Yeah, but then you store a lot of other shit you forget about over the years and it accumulates into piles of shit, that's how mine is. It's sad really.

But, hey, it's still there...unlike some people who ultimately have to get rid of stuff like this because neighbors start to complain and the city comes knocking at your door.

Should turn out really nice when you're done, I've always liked those!!! Really clean starting point. Rebuild the engine and keep it stock.

    Oh that's just cruel.

Well it looks like a cool project. Can I ask how old you are ? How many projects have you done before ?

A few of us have torn up nice cars before to put in "monster power" way before the car was ready, and most of the time, the cars die a slow painful death. Like others have said...start slowly. Once you get the car running (and places like Garage Zero can help), then get it roadworthy and figure out what the car needs next. It's a lot easier to shake a car down as it is and fix suspension issues, get the brakes where you want them etc, without throwing money into a 2Jz whole.

Once you get the car in good shape, then if you decide you want a 2J in there, then you can still enjoy the car while you're saving cash up for all the misc stuff youl'll need.

Hope that helps....now take a hose to that thing and make her shine...Ma'am.

Wow i cant believe i never posted here. Best engine to put in earlier celicas is 1g-gte, that would be for the 75 and older. 1jz-gte is da shiznit in 76-77 celicas.
If i didnt already have 1ggte i would be puttin 20r in with mild cam and my 48mm webers. Another popular option is 20r head on early (81) 22r block, that way u'd have bigger pistons with the better flowing head.
I now know of several 1st gen celicas in my town and only one is for sale for sure and it's a rust bucket.

    shut up.

restore it. yank the engine and tranny and break it all down and find out what needs to be done to fix it. throw it back in, and drive it.
