Man Confesses to Trashing Car

A man wanted for stealing a backhoe to trash his girlfriend's car has apparently owned up to the crime in Williamsport.
Williamsport police said it was a lover's quarrel that got messy very quickly Saturday afternoon.
Police said the man stole a backhoe from a demolition site on West Fourth Street and drove it to where his girlfriend's car was parked. He used the piece of heavy equipment to flip his girlfriend's car onto its roof.
The roof and the windshield of the car was crumpled and the rear bumper smashed. There is no estimate of the damage but police said the charges will be determined by the damage estimate.
Investigators did not release the name of the man or his girlfriend. They said he came forward Sunday and confessed to the crime.
Police said he will be charged not only with the damage to the car, but stealing the backhoe to commit the crime.
