So i am driving down I-75 southbound on my way to tampa to pick up my son...and i have a escort X50 radar/laser detector....and while coming through forsyth between exits 188-181 there were about 8 georgia state police with tons of ppl pulled over...friday nite by the way....but anyways a cop is sitting on the side of the road just sitting there X50 does not go off at all what so ever....then he comes flyin out and gets behind me and pulls me....ok i dont have a valid license...moved down from new york a little bit ago and my shit is suspended through new york but anyways, he arrests me for that and says he hit me with laser at 88mph...in a 65 zone...which is bullshit cause my shit didnt even go off, but im sittin in the back of the car handcuffed, while he is talkin to my girl, i'm listening to the two way radio in the cop car and this cop says oh got another one he's drivin in a gray silverado....few minutes goes by and i hear another officer say ok i got him he's over how fast should i get him for....the other officer says ummmmmm how does 87 sound....now my question how corrupt are these cops down here...does this sorta thing happen alot.....damn pigs...

Well I guess my first question for you is, how fast were you REALLY going? If you were going 88mph then he got you fair and square. Everytime I've been pulled over the cop would clock me with laser and they were dead on, so I can't say anything. Granted, radar detectors and laser guns are a no go. The beam of laser is so small, and depending on where your radar detector is, it may never go off. If anything, once your detector goes off, they already have your speed so its meaningless anyway.

Don't know what to tell you. I've never dealt with anything like that before and there isn't much you can do about it here unless you can get the radio transmissions recorded and somehow prove to the court you were not going that fast. Good luck.

my thing is, they DO this all the time, they do speed checks on the HWY. GSP's training facility is in FORSYTH so its a given not to speed down there. But, hey, they caught you, DRIVING with a SUSPENDED LICENSE. You shouldn't be on the roads in the first place, your a liability to you and everyone else on the road.

And its not corrupt, you were speeding, REGARDLESS. The laser will PICK YOU UP, depending on the speed they lock you in @ give or take +/-1 mph

and just to let you know, they DON'T have to pull you over with laser/radar, b/c police are trained in calculating speed with the naked eye.. sometimes it up holds up in court and sometimes it doesn't, but judges will agree with the police..

and your shit outta luck, you may have had a case about how they did their "speed trap", but you had a suspended license, so their gonna rape you in FINES..

i was not lookin for anyone to police bash because i was not doing that either...i agree i had what was coming to me but i just moved down here from new york...my lic was suspended for bullshit back in ny...there were ppl going alot faster than myself and when i saw the cop i did slow down to under 70 he came flyin up and realized he couldnt catch up to the mistu that blew by me and the caddy that was following him both doing at least 90+ like i said i was not lookin to bash any police for that matter just wondering how the cops down here are...when i asked to see my speed on the radar/laser machine he refused and proceeded to shut it right off...said here in georgia the officer doesnt have to show you anything....(in new york if you ask they must show)....but anyways with that all out of the way here were the fines

196-speeding 23 over the limit
84--tinted window violation
the sheriffs at the monroe county jail said that if i come into court on my court date and show them that i have a vaild dl that i can get a refund on the 700 that i paid is this true anyone know??
as for all of you that said i got what was coming to me...and i shouldnt have been speeding...etc....YOU'RE RIGHT...i whole heartedly agree...but shit happens that is out of your control......

I was told that they have to show u, atleast thats what the guy in stone mountain told me, ask abou it in court, im sure the judge will tell u. The DL thing happen to a friend, and he did get refunded... b/c they suspended his license by accident and he didnt know, and he got a check from the county for his fine he paid.

but they are trained to calcute speed with a moving vehicle, like if they are following u for a certain distance. Thats what i was told. and when u go to court, ask for the radar calibration records for the radar, if they didnt calibrate it that day or whatever..they will drop the speeding.
