Need a definitive answer

Glare REALLY kills my eyes at night, almost to the point where I'm considering getting tint on my windshield (yes its legal if recommended by a doctor) but people do not seem to understand wattage as it pertains to glare and luminance.

My understanding is that the higher the wattage of the bulb the less luminance there is and more glare, so you're basically blinding people while limiting your visibility, and I want to be sure if that is true or not. Lately I've seen too many people trying to get the HID look with +10000k halogen bulbs.

You also have to look at Kelvin ratings. Think of the colour rating scale as a rainbow instead. A standard incandescent bulb in the traditional shape that is common to the old style reading and coffee table lamps is rated at about 2400K to 2600K. A standard halogen headlamp bulb is rated at about 3000K to 3200K. Early generation HID systems where rated at about 4300K to 4500K and current generation HID systems are rated at about 4000K to 4250K. Just as a reference point, sun light at high noon on a clear day is rated at about 5000K to 5500K depending on the season, level of pollution in the air and your location on the planet. A cloudy day at high noon can be rated at about 6000K to 7200K.

Most people just want HID for the color it produces not the output. "ooh oohh O want the 8000k"

Tony get glases with "no glare coating" then you can fend off glare in and out of the car.

Got astigmatism? I know thats what I have and if I'm drivin' on a 2 lane road at night and a car is comin' at me, all I can see are the headlights... so hopefully it's a straight road lmao. Anyways, ya, I'd try what Kev said first, get you some of those Eagle Eye or blocker or whatever the hell they are called sunglasses. If that doesn't work, then check out the tint... Even if you have permission to use it, i'm sure cops would still be pulling you over every 2 minutes.

why is that?? I know someone that has had it for 3+ years, 20% tint, and no tickets at all. Guess it depends on the car, and make sure you don't get the mirror finish tint LIRL

I'm not sayin' they'd ticket you, but I'd assume they'd be pulling you over thinking you had it done without a permit.

Keep in mind that the advertising of the bulbs are usually false, fake, and completely wrong. Just cause they're advertised to be rated at 10k, 8k, 7k, etc. Kelvin, doesn't mean they actually are. My HIDs are rated at 5,800K and they're brighter and a deeper shade of purple than most claimed 10,000K HIDs I've seen.
