Default Waitress changed my tip-- press charges or take corporate coupon?

So my mother comes to visit and i take her to O'charlies to eat and catch up.

Well the service wasnt great, not terrible but unattentive and unfriendly, well i still believe in tipping at least 15% unless there is something terribly awry. Well total is 40.04 and i make it out to 46.04

Right at 15% even though I dont believe she deserved it.

Well i was in a hurry so when she came with the check i jsut handed her my card, and left my receipt on table.

On my bank statement (check weekly) it showed 48.xx well i didnt have my receipt but i remembered it being a tad less.
I called and after some bickering teh manager found my credit payment in the computer and said bill was for 40.xx( the bill was 40, the charge was 48,) (I had forgot) and I told her I think the 48 is fraudulent bc i dont think id leave more than 15% for poor service. I told her i left 15% im 90% sure, and im sorry if im wrong but id like to be sure.

She said she cant get my slip to see anything blah blah they send it to main office.... Well i told her i need a copy of it bc I feel there has been fraudulent activity. She tried to be slick and not call me back as well, I have had to call every few days.

so it turns out that the skinny meth fuck addict bitch changed my 6 to an 8, to give herself a 2$ tip for a keybump or whatever crackheads scrounge change for. I think she noticed how unattentive I was to the check and leaving my receipt on table and took advantage of it.. but 2 dollars? wtf

do i press charges or take the corporate "how can we make this better? may we buy your next meal?" they didnt say anything about the waitress, do i need to ask if she will be reprimanded or let go?

Ive pretty much made my mind (FUCK THAT I DONT LIKE PPL PLAYIN ON MY PHONE) but thought id share and get your opinion.

and DISCLAIMER its not about hte money, im cheap on some things, but 2$ wont kill me, its more that i was stolen from.

I dont carry cash. and i dont see the point. Im pretty pertinant in remembering bills (i dont eat out often) and check the statement, and it isnt my responsibility to keep receipt, the restaurant is responsible for proving innocence, by law they have to keep the physical written receipt for a certain amount of time

i dont get it... I dont carry cash because my checks go into my account, i pay everything with a card.... i dont understand your hostility towards me
-- I have a gf, no kids because im 23 and there is more i want to do before having children, i dont understand how not having kids makes me cheap and how not carrying cash makes me cheap. id spend the same amount of money whether i carried cash or card

as much as you may not think it, cash is the new check. checks are outdated and never preferred or used much, cash will be the same in 10 years, it will be easier for everyone to pay through internet, scan from phone and such

Only Hood rats and wannabes carry cash LOL

If you're smart you keep everything in the bank, paying and carrying cash is so 10 years ago.

Am I just supposed to carry $100s on me and predict my next bill? I buy things well over $100 daily it would be absolutely dangerous for me to carry that much cash on me.

id press charges. even though it's small.... theft is theft and getting away with small theft could lead to larger theft. I worked at a bar before and had complaints of things like this. After investigating the claims, we found that waitresses were altering the tip amounts but they were doing it in ridiculous amounts. If someone left a $5 tip they would mark a 1 in front of it and make it $15... even had a couple that changed $5 to $50 and one case where they even changed it from $10 to $100 and had a person's account over drawn.

The comment above about not carrying cash is one of the dumbest things ive ever seen in my life. Unless you're a construction worker........... almost every job deposits your money into your account. If i spend cash i cant track my purchases... using a card, i can see every penny spent. If i lose my wallet with $500 cash in it, i just lost $500... if i lose my wallet with my card in it, all of my funds can be returned and tracked if stolen. I can buy something with my card over the phone or internet. Even emergency service like a tow truck can accept card payments. For using a card, i receive rewards and benefits that i dont for spending cash. There's very little reason to carry cash unless you need some for a vending machine or something or are buying drugs.

also, i have a little something i call a tip lottery. If i get bad service.... i dont tip and i roll that tip over to the next person that gives me good service. I dont try to look for reasons to not give them a tip, but if i get my food before someone brings me a drink or go 15 minutes without a refill, if im on a date and a waitress stays at the table to talk about her marital problems or anything of the sort... i dont tip at all. Then the next person that gives good service gets a fair tip x2 or 3-4 depending on how many poor experiences they followed. usually i dont get more than 1-2 bad experiences in a row, but i've tipped $40-50 on a $10-20 tab before following this personal rule.

that's horrible. servers make $2.00/hr. you go out & have them wait on you and you leave them nothing? how pathetic.

Carrying cash on a daily basis is an unnecessary risk. Keeping $2 worth of quarters in your pocket to give to your kid for a gumball is not what i define as "carrying cash". If i arrange for someone who only accepts cash payment to do an odd job at my house or if im purchasing a part from an individual, i stop at an ATM in route to meeting them. This way im reducing the amount of time that im carrying cash and the various risks with it. Cash can be destroyed or stolen, card cant. I can drop cash in water, fire, have it stolen, lose it, tear or rip it, leave it in the washing machine or drier, hit it with a lawn mower, forget about it, miscount it ect ect ect.... none of these things can happen to a credit card. A wad of cash has no security features.

I don't know what kind of brick house card you have...but I am positive all of these things can happen to cards as well except for the miscounting part.

OP, take it corporate. She up'd the tip to $8. It's not enough to justify the headache of pressing charges. If you can prove fraud happened, you will have the push behind you to get her fired.

Im saying the card can be destroyed without destroying the funds it gains access to. If cash is destroyed, it is forever gone.

same thing with cash, if i lose my wallet at a club, i have no money for food, gas, hotel ect..... but to where my cash is now gone... my card is temporarily gone and will be replaced along with any funds that were not authorized. I keep hidden numbers that only i would find or recognize in my cell phone that would allow me access to funds without having a card. I also keep a small check book and spare card hidden inside one of the interior panels of my vehicle in case of some strange emergency.

it all depends on the exact situation. if the tip was physically changed then fraud was definitely committed. if the tip/total on the merchant copy of the credit card slip was not altered/changed then you cannot prove that fraud was committed. it does happed....intentionally and unintentionally....that tips get entered into the computer incorrectly. if the tip/total was not changed on the merchant copy of the credit card reciept, and an error was made, either intentionally or unintentionally, management who took the server's cashout has responsibility too. it is their job to verify all credit card tips.

dispute it with your credit card company. they will contact the corporate office and they will be responsible for showing proof of the actual receipt. if no proof is shown you will win the dispute. by doing this you can see if anything was changed on the receipt, thus knowing whether fraud was intentionally commmitted.....not that it could not have been committed either way but without physical evidence of such you would have a hard time proving any fraud took place, rather a mistake was made.

    ....it's just an hhr

I'll just say you probably have shitty/sloppy handwriting and she thought your 6 was an 8.
It's $2. If she really is a thief, it'll catch up to her.

Sure its just $2, but i'm guessing if it was casually done to him, it probably wasn't her first/last time doing it.

If she added this little bonus to 10-20 customers a night, that's a pretty sizable raise she gave herself.

There's no difference between $2 and $200 to me, its the principle. I'd actually be glad @ finding out someone would steal $2, because you know this person probably wouldn't think twice about another opportunity that presents itself, say $200.

But at the end of the day, I can care less if the restaurant decides to keep her or fire her, that's not my problem. You let them know what happened, let them spend their elbow grease getting to the bottom of it, it's not your business. If it were me, and I found concrete evidence proving her guilt, i'd fire her in the most embarrassing way possible- for her own good.

It could have been an honest mistake. When a server takes the bill they just enter the total number. She could have just fat-fingered it when she was typing it in or simply could have read it wrong (or she could be a thieving bitch). Regardless, it sounds like you've already done everything right in contacting the restaurant to get it cleared up. If you don't have any luck there than your credit card company is going to be your next best bet (unless you were using a check car, then you're pretty much screwed). Pressing charges is fucking ridiculous though.

I once got overcharged at a bar by $200 dollars. Fortunately I managed to clear it up after a few days and a couple of calls with management.

I would not press charges, I would just tell them you will not frequent that location anymore because it employs untrustworthy people. Move on, shell get hers eventually

Are you 100% positive she changed your tip to 8 bucks? Some restaurants put an authorization through for an extra 20-25% just to make sure, then it clears later for the exact amount. I've ran into this numerous times.

Wait a few days until it posts clear through your account.

i cant believe someone is arguing that carrying cash is better than carrying a card...FOH. it's even a better solution if you get robbed...somebody robs me and ask for my wallet, guess what i'm going to do, expeditiously hand over my wallet and if i'm still left alive after that i'm canceling all of my cards, go to the bank, withdraw cash that i need until my new card comes in. even at that, most of my money will be left home or i wouldnt bring any if i didnt plan on spending that day. carry cash is asking for permanent problems.

The way I see it, it's not worth your time or effort to "press charges" against her. You don't have your receipt, therefor you have no evidence against her. The sad thing is, this happens ALL. THE. TIME. I've worked plenty of hours in the service industry. Bitches do this shit on a day to day basis. For what? A couple extra bucks? Please.

Call corporate and file a complaint. They will most likely do their best to make it right beyond the $2 that was stolen from you.

But take from this, SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS. If you don't want to save them, TAKE A PICTURE OF THEM. Throw away or delete once it hits your account, but I've seen people steal WAY MORE than just $2... you're lucky the bitch didn't add a 10- before your 6 and make your $46 tab a $146 tab. I've seen it happen.

I've also thought about writing my tip out like you would a check -- like instead of $6, write "SIX" ... no way of changing that shit. :P
