    Default What makes something JDM?

    I see everyone saying JDM this and JDM that

    Is it just the black wheel bright car scheme? the flat paint look?

    And why is everyone like Im selling XXX JDM wheels, when they arent even in japan (not literally) Like Falken wheels or something liek that

    Arent JDM like Volks, Spoon, Buddy Club, Mugen, Gram Lights etc. stuff that is expensive over here, but dirt cheap there?(and i know they are, ive seen pictres lol )

    just wondering

    My best guess would be, if something is only produced in Japan then its JDM, as well as only having it available if its imported. Otherwise its USDM.

    But what do I know, I have a domestic lol Even though I can get some EDM parts!

    I agree, I badged my G35 as a Skyline 350GT just to be different but still refer to it as an Infiniti G35, I'd feel like an ass calling it a skyline.

    Simplicity, function, & clean w/ clean lines & good taste (if you like the "conservative" clean line look that is)...doesn't necessarily mean all j-spec (for you nissan peoples) or JDM parts. It's pretty much a look that won't ever get old...it may be a stock looking AE86 or a Honda with little or no body changes, suspension work, "race" style wheels...etc. Normally using quality parts that have a function and more attention to speed and handling than looks. See http://www.jtuned.com for examples.

    The more extreme you go on a car the more "trendy" it is...like the monstorous body kits through the late 90's and the years there after, differant color window tint, fiberglass dashes, and molded & shaved everything, headlight conversion, etc...hell look at 1/2 the cars at NOPI, show cars have hardly changed in the last 5-8 years and it gets old, same heavy ass fiberglass bodykits, 500lbs. of stereo equipment, cotton stuffed up in the wheel wells, etc....i respect the time spent on something, especially if someone did it themself but it seems to get old. Even if "JDM" style cars all look the same, same stuff, same mods, etc...it may be boring to some but a nice clean car doesn't seem to get old to alot of us...

    Kinda off topic but we joke about our kitchen or shop not being JDM when it's all disorganized (is that even a word?) who knows, anyways....my roommates and i are competing for the most JDM bedroom...lol, doesn't necessarily mean bamboo floors and soji screens with a zen garden...but clean conservative with a slight asian influence (which just means less is better). Take a majority of Ikea's setups...so simple yet so hot. Just my

    what's wrong with referring your car with it's chassis code? Look at the VIN number on most of those cars...you'll see those magic letters in there.

    You tell someone you have a hatchback, then automatically what is their next question..."really, what year?" It's just a real simple way to say exactly what you have. And come on, it's gotta be a turn on when a girl refers to her car with the body/chassis code right?!

    CIVIC SI, ok...so is the fucking ugly ass hatch with the misplaced shifter, '91 civic hatch si, '92-'95 body civic hatch si, or the regular Si civic with the b16a2? (yeah I know, hence your name on here) It's not making anything look or sound better, it's just a way to reference your car.

    ok so yeah here's my take on JDM, anything that is a true japanese product...ARC, Spoon, Mugen, Fujitsubo, Trust, HKS, Apexi... things of that nature would get my attn in a JDM theme'd car... not Rotas or APC or things that are just stupid available over here...

    JDM=parts only produced and distributed in the Japanese market. technically an HKS turbo timer isn't a JDM part because it's sold in the US. same goes for several spoon/mugen/Trust parts.

    perhaps, but since its an expensive buy, alot more than say AEM/APC/Injen things of that nature... i'd consider it JDM b/c of it rarity... but only on certain items...b/c how often do you actually see a MUGEN INTAKE and Exhaust?

    if u dnt consider spoon and mugen parts JDM then there is no more JDM parts bc most of the stuff that originated in Japan is finding its way over here. like if being sold in japan only is what makes it JDM then u wouldnt see it over here bc u have to buy it to put it on ur car right?
    volk, kenesis, spoon, mugen, regamaster, toda, jun, do luck, bride, apexi, hks, etc...

    Just the same as Acura, Lexus, & Infinity in Asia and Europe, it's differant for them yet still a oem item with clean conservative looks. I was ordering the Toyota Harrier grill (Lexus RX300) for my psycho ex, but i left her.

    Yea, well I mean I'd imagine the entire conversation would be relative to who you're talking to.

    What's funny is most people recognize "AE86" but not Corolla GT-S.
    If someone asks what I drive and I tell them "an old Corolla GT-S" they'll want to end the conversation, as images of 1994 front wheel drive, 4 door Corollas float into their head. Then I say "you know.. the old AE86..."
    And they'll suddenly light up and start asking all the normal questions;
    "do you drift it?"
    "do you watch initial d?"
    "does it have a 20 valve?"
    "you should paint it panda"
    "have you ever watched BMI?"
    "do you want to watch initial d?"
    "have you heard of Taka?"

    but see thats the thing...you have maybe the only popular corolla in the import scene....if you just mention...yeah i drift in my old skool corolla...they arent gon think of the family sedan they seen at tha red light...that can be related in person ( then visually seeing it) or without an image of teh car....
    what im speakin of is a lil different...i can say yeah i have a Si....more then likely, they are gon think of teh 99-00 as they are the more popular version....
    i was just saying that teh Ek, EG, and Kouki refrences are played out to me...just call it whats its meant to en " a civic dx" or what have you.. but im thinkin you get where im comin from

    it aint about letters mofo... syllables = effort lol

    S13 = 3 syllables
    240sx = TOO FOR TEE ESS EXX = 5 syllables thats a whole nother 2 SYLLABLES!!! In the duration of a year that accrues up and you find at the end of the year that you waste endless calories for no reason, therefore its biologically beneficial to use JDM terms because they are "JDM tyte Y0!", less wear/tear on your body
