Default recieved an interesting call today...

I got a call from my mom today...She was offering me a job. This is a contracting job big $. No joke kinda money. Well I have been out of school for 2 years. I finally went back last semester and I am really focusing on getting my degree and stuff. Well the question is should I stay here and work 36+hours while taking as many credits as I can(15 this semester) or quit school again to go and make big$. I mean mucho dinero. More than I would make if I finished my degree and started right away. This job isn't guaranteed to last forever tho and that's my problem. I can do it a year but when my contract is up I'm out of luck I guess...
    What would you do?

Something's not right about this thread.

To provide a simple answer to this thread - Just do it...finish school later if it makes you happy.

"Big Money" "Bread by the Loaves" opportunities are not always available but school is always around.

    Big money...

...that means collecting unemployment and making $500/week off a cash job.

Make the money and go to school...you can do it. Especially if it's "no joke kind of money" as you say. I wish I had that kind of opportunity. Working with family though, you have to be careful. Remember while working it's just business. Don't take it personal.

People tend to go to school to make big money so it wouldnt make much sense to pass on the big money to go to school. school will always be there...

    Things to consider.

Do you have student loans? If so, when do you have to start paying them off?

How much money are you throwing away by quitting school? (books, tuition)

Can you finish this semester of school then start the job?

Its hard for me to tell you what I'd do with out knowing... What degree you are going for and expected pay once you get your degree and how much this contract job is paying.

I dislike working with Family very much. As soon as I find another job, I'm outta here. It's personal, even when it's not personal.

I have 3k in student loans that I took out before I found out about a scholarship that I have now. I pay facility fees for school. This semester was about $137 I also have the PEL grant which means I didn't have to pay at all. I actually made 1600 this semester and the same last semester. I have VA benefits that entitle me to an extra 500 a month as long as I'm in school. I work now not really because I "HAVE" to but because my grandmother is sick and can't work to pay for her house and other bills. I handle what I can for her and basically don't have a life....haha I mean if I can make 100k a year why pass it up I guess. I'm going to all my mom tonight and see what I can work out...

If you have a chance to make 100k in one year, do it. No doubt.. That's some cheese. Pay of all debt, but a bunch in the bank. You'll be glad you did once you go back to school

Ultimately you know what motivates you. If you are passionate about what you are studying in school then I'd say stay, no amount of salary can replace job satisfaction and money doesn't necessarily make a job any more bearable. I posted up about the situation I am in, good job making a very generous salary but the job I love pays half (almost a 3rd) and I am busting my ass to get there.

I will say this, one event sent me down the path that I am on now. I was 19 making $60k+ which made for a very nice lifestyle at the moment but looking back had I pursued what I was really passionate about I would be much happier and farther along than in a stagnant career field. When you make a good salary your lifestyle will reflect that making it harder to transition should you decide to pursue something else in the long run.

I guess I said all that to say.. do what you are passionate about. If you are passionate about money (nothing wrong with that) take the job. If you choose the job I cannot stress enough to invest and put yourself in a position where you have options.

But you still have to weigh in that he said the job will not last forever. That what's he going to do? Personally, I'd take the education and the security in knowing you have a bigger chance of landing a more permanent position somewhere in your field. Then you have insurance, retirement and (for the most part) job stability. I'd feel more secure knowing that I have a paycheck coming every week than to wonder each week if this paycheck is my last. Later, QD.

But he said a one year contract and 100k for the year....i mean come on thats a no brainer...make the 100k and be ballin when you go back to school a year later...or when he gets out of school he will have to pay off some loans and it so hard to find a job right now, even with a degree, that hes gonna spend awhile looking for a job with no income.

just found out that nothing is written in stone...my mom is pulling strings for me but I'm going to push for it. I can come back in a year if that's how long it lasts but my mom just got extended another year...If worse comes to worse I'll have dividends and go back to school in a much better position than I'm in right now. Cross your fingers for me guys I'm gonna try to make this money

Can't pass up $100k, if you can stay in school too, do both.
