Car Suggestions.

I know this belongs in Car Talk, but I wanted the input from the WL crew, considering that I havent been doing any kind of car work for the last year and a half and I have posted in any other sections.

Ok so me and my girl are both planning to get some newer cards (pre-owned). I am not a speed freak i dont really care about going fast. My two major concerns are low maintence and reliability. Also on a budget, I have 23k to play with, for both cars. So no more than 12,500 for each car, and this includes tax and tag/title if buying from a dealer.

I was thinking for my self, a 2005-2006 Civic EX 5 speed Coupe, and a 2005-2006 Civic Sedan Auto for my girl.

Anyone else have any better suggestions?

Would love an E36 M3, and they are trully bulletproof, its my favorite 3 series. But unlike a civic I can't pull the motor and drop a new on in less than a day.

Plus the maintainence on a Bimmer is just so much more. I just want something I can drive around and not worry about anything other than Gas, Brake Jobs, and Oil Changes.

I am pretty much mechanically retarded and I can pull my engine out of my M3 in a morning. I can pull the tranny out in a little under 3 hours, and I can pull the diff out in less than two with the right tools. The cars are a breeze to work on, I mean a BREEZE. There are other things that are amazing about German engineering other than their performance orientation.
I can get solid reputable brake rotors for $26. I can replace the entire cooling system for $250 and do it in the morning....I have 145,000miles and 5000+ track miles and the car still put down 251whp. I can't think of a cheaper,faster car to use on the track and I can't imagine how long it would last as a DD.

Yea well There nothing is going to be like a honda in terms of reability and repairs. Thought about you getting an S2k Ap1 there real cheap now and geting the GF a newer civic.

well the way I see it, I currently have 7k in CC debt, and not much cash. I have about 4gs, and I can put a 2g down payment on each car. A 36month payment plan at 6% ( I gots decent credit), should equal roughly < $300 a month. Then if I sell both of our current cars for about 3.5k each I can pay off my CC debt and have newer cars. Or I can keep driving my touch as nails civic (shits been worry fucking free for the last 2 years) and pay the same amount monthly to pay off my CC debt.

I'd pay off your debt and stop picturing new cars in the driveway....

You have 7 grand in debt...o.k, well your looking for advice so you can be in about $30,000 worth of debt and still be stuck with newer piles of economy in the driveway... Get this, the bright side to your predicament is that you can sell your current perfectly reliable boring transportation for newer perfectly reliable boring transportation and maybe be in 20-26k in debt instead of $30,000 give or take a few grand.
Pay off your debt, save some money and get something when you have the means.

I think you should get a E36 M3, SRT4, WRX (few SRT4/WRXs found in this price), LS1 fbody, RSX, civic EP3, MB CLK430

What everyone forgets to mention when talking about E36 M3s is how stupidly expensive they are to insure. I've never had a wreck or a ticket, and with full coverage my '97 was about $5k/year... Though I'm only 19, so if you're older it may be quite as bad, but still not a smart choice considering what you want.

Yeah, don't confuse what I was saying though, I was not recommending you get an E36, rather defending their reliability and how simple they are to work on. Refer to post #20 for my honest advice.

or you could head down to the local store where they sell car and driver and get the buyer's guide issue. i got it, and hot damn, gives you a huge choice. 430 vehicles with all the specs and pricing on them all.

just out of my exp. id say get a toyota.. i no a lot of people on here aren't big fans of them but i havent had any issues with mine and its an 06 with about 80k on it.. they are cheap, safe, reliable, and last a while..

Then save $300 a month until you have enough cash to pay for a used car in full. Then do the same to buy her a car.
