I've done it with the lights off and on. It doesn't really matter to me. I prefer the lights on though.

Depends on the mood and the area of the house. The lights are usually left on in the kitchen, pool room, living room. Then dim lights or candles in the bedroom, and bathroom.
My light is off, but my computer and t.v. would be on and it shines the whole room. It kinda gives that romantic look XD
You must not be very adventurous if you can't handle the lights on. The sun is out an average 14 hours a day... thus meaning you only do it during the night times.. SAD.
