    Default Airplane on a Treadmill

is on Mythbusters right now. Channel 53. They are basically making fun of all the people that say that the plane will not take off.

We all know it won't. Me RUINER and JAIMECBR900, SPEEDMINDED and a few others proved this years ago.

This is me (below) -- still think I am talking about a fake plane?

they proved it otherwise, and planes dont "drive" on the road or ground they drive in the air, totally independent of the ground. thats how i was able to go over 200 mph over the ground but only like 180 through the air. the air was giving me a 20mph push across the ground.

Bullshit. If you have a plane we can try it (AGAIN). I have a plane-treadmill. I already broke my primary plane trying this when I fell off the front of my plane-treadmill. I'm NOT trying this w/ my backup plane.

Great. I have a plane-treadmill at my disposal for when I wanted to practice power-ups w/out calling in my flight plans. I live in a fly-in community - fly on over tomorrow. If you're ballsy, feel free to land on my treadmill - if not, the runway in my back yard will suffice.

Thats is so stupid... All the plane needs to air over the wings. Having a counter force on the wheel does nothing. Now it wont lift off as fast but long as it has a propeller it should lift off. Im not to sure about a jet. But a light weight jet might pull enough air too lift off.

it doesnt matter whether prop of jet. same principle for both types.

Not following here. How is it the same principle. I talking an aircraft with a propeller and a jet that uses thrust of the engine to make the aircraft go forward. An Aircraft with an propeller most of the time blows air over the wings to give lift. Where a jet propells the aircraft forward and the air from the speed on the aircraft lift the aircraft. But some jet aircraft have the engines mounted aft of the aircraft which maybe the suction of the engine could have enough to lift the aircraft

It really doesn't matter. Both types will take off. Both rely on moving air to propel the airplane instead of relying on putting power to the ground like a car.

ok ok now that im done laughing at you cause i know more than you ill explain it for ya. the prop on a prop plane actually PULLS the airplane through the air and the jet pushes it..

OK, teach me.... Cuz how Im thinking of the theory on mythbuster and you must be different.... So a jet power aircraft would take off with a equal counter force on the ground to keep the aircraft stationary would lift off?

Ok didn't they prove an aircraft with a propeller would?

Impossible. Maybe w/ a super transmission and trick-tires (which don't exist). It will def not go anywhere. I tried it and fucked up a perfectly good airplane.

How about you turn on Mythbusters and find out the truth. It WILL take off, as long as the propulsion system is based on moving air (propeller or jet) vs. friction with the ground (like a car).

The Mythbusters episode proves nothing. The speed of the "treadmill" aka butcher paper being pulled by a Segway stayed constant the entire time. The actual myth states that the conveyor always matches the speed of the wheels.

In order for the plane to move forward relative to the ground, the wheels of the plane must be moving faster than the butcher paper.... which it did.

The speed of the wheels/conveyor belt does NOT matter. Airspeed is the only factor, which is why the plane takes off.

No -- that's called planespeed. I mean the plane is what's moving.

This is what I work on... A twin otter, 2 turbo prop P&W PT6, along with Caravans, King Air, EMB-120, and 1900... So let not get backward. During Full Power runs the baby want to lift off. Too bad my company's last refur sold for 2.5 million dollar we could found out. I know something lighter could do more.

well then do this, next time its out on the ramp, go full throttles and just pull back on the yoke and see if it takes off at 0 airspeed. ill bet my future career that it doesnt.

LOL... I don't think so.... It would be suicide. It would be controllable even if you did get any lift....
