    Default Through the Wire

is an excellent song. Haven't blasted this shit in ages. its only like 4 years old, but it feels so throwback.

"somebody ordered pancakes, i just sip the sizzurp"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvb-1wjAtk4

too random for the entertainment section, so suck it.

hmmm. aesop rock, blue scholars, jedi mind tricks, immortal technique, supreeme, atmosphere... etc are the guys who really float my boat. not all of them are necessarily "intelligent", per se, but they certainly go beyond the realm of "bitches and hos" style hip-hop.

What I find funny is the fact that these rappers (Kanye/Lil Wayne) come out and act all hard by cutting all emotion out of they're voices, but then they get huge and decide they can be themselves. Sounds like some pussy shit to me, although I guess that's what you gotta do to be successful in hip-hop nowadays. Everyone's scared to show their true colors.

Just compare these dude first albums to their later ones, they become completely different people, especially Wayne

true but you gotta do what you gotta do to make some cash, i actually bought lil waynes cd and the songs are decent because of the beats but he is one of the biggest idiots in the world. granted he does have a wide vocabulary, but he just throws shit together that doesnt make since at all. the only truly good song on that cd is Tie My Hands. here is a link to the song, its a slow beat and has bobby valentino in it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpQtmZWf8-8

Slug (Atmosphere rapper) is one of the best lyricists of our time imo. There's also P.O.S., Brother Ali is pretty good, of course MF Doom, Murs........

IMO, the work of the artists you have named would be considered to be hip hop as opposed to rap.

Atmosphere has been around for awhile but if you're not from MN or into underground music then you probably know nothing about it. Same w/some of the other ppl/groups you mentioned.

I like Kanye. IMO, his work goes beyond the standard bitches ho's and what have you formula that most of today's rap is plagued by.

Kanye also puts on a hell of a show. Saw a show with him, N.E.R.D and Lupe Fiasco and it was non stop from beginning to end.

yeah i know its more hip-hop, but i just hate being so picky about genres. hip-hop and rap are undeniably intertwined. I dont necessarily agree about atmosphere - of all the artists I mentioned, atmosphere i think is by far the most well-known. And yeah, I agree with you on Kanye - as far as mainstream radio rap is concerned, hes probably my favorite.

Andre 3000 is OK.. But not that great.
the hip hop knowledge in this thread can be compare to that of a 1st grade student.

Yes Kanye personality sucks... But he can def write and produce. Kanye been in the game for YEARS making beats and when I saying making beats.. he sample beats and make them fire.
Almost all his songs have some sort of message....

Is he the best NO.. not even in my top 10... But I will give credit where credit is due.

LIL WAYNE... mainstream rapper, but is also a good lyricist. He has some corny songs.. but the CARTER 3 album is a future classic. He has songs on there that are really nice.. and not club banger or 107.9 jams... SO again, I will give credit where credit is due.

Everyone has opinions on HIP HOP.. Thats ok, I respect that.. but.. there is a reason some people dont sell even when they are Indie or can freestyle in the underground world....
lol @ SLUG... hahahaha c'mon dude..

So you would honestly tell me that Lil Wayne is a better lyricist than Slug?

i know everyone has their own opinions but seriously? he throws shit together that makes about as much sense as a poodle fucking a pitbull. he's a martian? lol, i know its all entertainment and shit and im not saying i dont like his music but i will say HALF his songs make no sense.

im not old but i am old school as far as rap goes, im more of a late 80's and early 90's rap/hip hop listener.

Since when is musical taste objective? The whole philosophy surrounding any form of art is subjectivity. If you want right and wrong stick to math...
