I ended up installing an aftermarket 4x speed CD-ROM in that thing as well as a Sound Blaster sound card. I then upped the RAM from 2mb to 6mb. The 4mb RAM chip cost me $350 at the time!!!

I do not deny it, I'm an old fart. Luckily though, I'm no where near as old as Brett. I don't know if I could have made it through the Ice Age quite as well as he did.

My first computer was similiar to this:

A 386sx 25mHz, 8 megs of ram, a 125 meg hard drive, and a 2400 baud modem. It ran Windows 3.11. And I had the baddest shit ever at the time LOL!

When I got mine there was no Ebay, or Internet. We used BBS's.

im a bit younger than you guys ... my fam always had computers, wasn't even old enough to recall technologies/specs.... but they were command line and win 3.11

MY OWN(as in not parents) personal first computer was made by acer (lol) it was 1800 bux (which was cheap at the time)
Pentium 133mhz 16mb ram double speed CD-rom, onboard sound (sound blaster based), ISA video card (lolol) 28.8 modem that somehow always connected at 33.6k I later on upgraded to a PCI video card added more ram(don't remember cost, I didn't know how to do it myself back then either, I was just a gamer)
Most games were DOS based back then too, so when you executed them a dos popup would happen, and you'd have to configure your sound settings lol... DMA and interupt, and the few drivers they had on there, sound blaster was on most of 'em... played the hell out of wolfenstein 3d, when Doom came out i was like OMFG these graphics are insane... then when Duke Nukem 3d came out, thats when my parents found out that computers might be evil for the first time, lol it was just an innocent toy before then... Haha @ the porn scenes in duke nukem. But i learned alot back then, how to operate DOS, etc.

. The computer came with windows 95 (which came out a month or two before i bought it)
I used this computer until windows ME came out LOLOL... i was WAAAAAY behind times for a while... It got to the point where I could barely run any program

Then i bought a 700$ celeron box, 700mhz with a OMG CD BURNER?!?!!, i was the coolest mofo alive back then, people were like dude can u burn me a CD... it was only 4x speed too and CDr's were 50 cents each if u buy in bulk and over a dollar each in singles. I burned PS1 games back then bc i had my mod chip.

And every computer after then, I built myself... for cheaper than all of the above and exponentially more powerful.

i had a 386 and i played fuckin Kommander Keen on that shit. I knew DOS like the back of my hand.

To random guy...I had a 1x external parallel port burner and burned games for my PS because I had the Goldfinger. My current PC is not so current but even so, 2 opteron 250's, 4gb DDR400, dual 7800GTXOC's, Tyan Thunder K8WE

built it in 2005 still works alright. Next one will be dual quad core Xeons (i use Maya).

One of the first of many computers in my house when I was kid.

The first that I actually learned to use was an original IBM PC, an old Intel 8086 based machine. I used to know DOS, and some BASIC.

My first PC was a ti-99a. I even had the tape array!

Then i graduated to a Laser 128. Still have this thing somewhere. These are actually Apple II clones.

Then I got my first REAL pc, an old ass Sun Sparcstation. I also got a Wintel pc with WFW 3.11.

yeah goldfinger, same here... i had a gold finger which stopped playing bootlegs after like a year, and also something called a pro action replay two(it also had a built in gameshark type thing)? if i remember correctly, it had a switch on the side that switched the menu from japanese to english... you had to install a spring in the CD tray of the ps1 so it would always think its closed and do a disc swap after you wait for the black bottom'd CD to stop spinning...

those were the days man... seriously

but yeah man i haven't seriously played any game for many years... computer, console, or whatever.... I used to be such an avid gamer back in the day though...
