I grew up in the same northeastern region. As a teenager no one, black, white, or otherwise, ever 'beat me up'...and a couple got hurt trying....and I am just a skinny white dude who had an extremely bad temper. In NJ HS no black/hispanic etc would raise a finger toward me after one was made an extreme "example" by me. To be honest, whites wouldnt fuk with me either.
I give others credit for this...that was actually rather wise on their part given my disposition at the time.
In my NY experience I saw quite a few blacks/hispanics get their ass handed to them by whites. So for me your example here is lost. Thats just not my experience at all. The toughest and most feared guys in my very mixed race surroundings were mostly white. In my NY HS the most feared guy was a white boy who had been 'relocated' to that school because he had thrashed a black guy (who slapped his GF) and broken the dudes jaw, several of his ribs, dislocated his arm, and various other internal injuries causing extended hospitalization. I never saw any black or hispanic EVER even gave this guy a sore look let alone challenge him in any way, regardless of their size.
If he told someone to get the fuk out of the way they MOVED...regardless of what racial terminology he used. They'd all talk sheit when he wasnt around but scurry off like mice when he approached. In my youth the blacks were often the "big mouth talkers", and the hispanics werent generally a factor at all in fights....except for the Puerto Rican girls...who I loved BTW. My very first HS date was a very sweet PR gal. :boobies:
As for the Asians, they were busy studying or in some lab so werent even present for fights. This may sound stereotypical but its the honest truth...I never saw even one Asian participate in a fight.
Its been my observation through adult life that whites often tend to gravitate toward other methods of solving issues...except in geographic areas where ignorance abounds. The rural south for example.
I think this factor has more to do with education than anything. Generally if you are in community where people are engaged in all manner of activity OTHER then education then fighting is more common. Many minority communities suffer in this regard.
In honesty, communication other then fighting is better. I think that generally those (anyone) with some intelligence/education tend toward more reasonable ways of solving issues...and this is true REGARDLESS of what color/race one is. In reality there are cowards, bullies, dipsheits, morons, & weasels in ALL races. Period.
If you want to use race as a factor to somehow measure 'grit' or the willingness to fight I think you'll likely find Scotch/Irish at the very top of that list, surpassing all blacks, hispanics, asians and other whites. History certainly indicates this. Often these people were hired by other countries to fight their wars, they were nearly always the most feared and ruthless in battle as well. Its my understanding that in our country more congressional medals of honor have been issued to people of scotch irish decent then any other as well. Make of that whatever you will.
I do know that as an adult I much prefer reasoning through problems to reach a non violent conclusion, and thats true regardless of what race/color person I am dealing with. :2cents:
