I can see the "hypocrisy" theory on this. "We wanna be equal, but we're going to call ourselves a derogatory name that white people used on us but can't use anymore."

Here's my take now. What I think black folks did was took a word that white people used to degrade them and turned it around as a slang term for homeboy. In essence turning the "downgrade" into a regular term that the black person that uses it is proud to be a "ni66a." That's where the pride is found (from Baby J's post). "I'm black and I'm proud. I'm a ni66a and I'm proud. No matter what you've done to us (in the past and to some...now), I'm still proud to be that ni66a."

My Take:

Unless you have lived the life of a black person. You will never truly understand why the N-bomb makes some cringe.

Unless you have lived life as a latino. You will never understand what its like to risk your life crossing the border into this country to try and "make it" in order to send some money back to your family. (I work with a lot of latinos and grew up with it all we have also lost a few here at my job who were shot when they were trying to come back.)
