Default whats happening this wknd here to TX?

I'm driving out to Odessa, TX on Friday and its basically a straight shot. I'm passing through a few states and I'm wondering whats along the way I should look for. I have never gone through Arkansas or Texas before.

Worlds largest ball of twine? How far away is Tunica on the way back? Hmm.

Downtown arkansas is really cool, they have a really awesome bridge and they have trolley rides to bars there.

Why would you go through Arkansas? You should be going through AL, MS, LA and TX.

Most of the stuff on that drive is really small and really boring. The drive across TX is awful. Dallas is pretty cool though. It's big and flat. I can't tell you anything specific to look for becuase I have no idea what you like. All of my favorite stuff in TX is south of Dallas and really out of the way for you.

Tunica is close to Memphis. That would be a few hours out of the way.

PS - Arkansas sucks pretty bad.

Jenn is correct. You are going to get on I-20 and you won't see anything at all interesting until you get to your destination. I have made the drive from Atlanta to Dallas more times that I can count and there just isn't much to see or do along the way. I live a couple of hours south of Dallas in Austin and personally, that is a great city to visit. San Antonio is also another 1.5 hours south of me and also a great place to see. If you need any other specifics, feel free to pm me and I am sure I can point you in the right direction.

It's been a while. Went to the Austin City Limits Festival it's first year.... I would guess 2002. Had a lot of beers at the Ginger Man, great food everywhere. Love that place.

Ah yeah I dont know what I was thinking about Arkansas. I'm going to Odessa and its basically going to take forever. I have someone else going with me and we are going to switch off and get there as fast as possible. Atlanta to Dallas usually takes about what like 14 hours ish? We're leaving Friday evening and going overnight.

Yes...can be less if you speed a bunch or more if you make a lot of pit stops, but that is a good round number. If you drive straight through at speed limits or around there with only fast food/gas stops, you can make dallas in 12 hours. Since you are driving at night, there should be less traffic so that will help. Also, make sure you realize if you are driving through texas during nighttime hours, the speed limit is reduced during those hours. Look for the black speed limit signs to indicate so.

OMG there are states that still have the night time speed limit reductions? Crap you'd figure with nobody out and nothing around it would be FASTER at night.

I dont want a ticket for sure though. Coming back will be much more fun however.

Yeah, Texas is one of the last remaining states to enforce it. Feel free to stop by Austin if you need a pit stop.

my part of texas sucks the drive sucks, lousiana has the worst roads hope your car isnt lowered or on stiff suspension. only cool part is your coming right through where im unfortunetly stuck at. im in abilene, its on 20, probably a little over an hour from midland/odessa probably going to be about 17/18 hour drive, its like 15/16 hour drive to where i live. i actually dont mind the drive on 20, its easy, hard to get lost going 20 all the way! haha let me know when your going to pass through ill make a big importatlanta poster and go put it beside the interstate or hold it up and cheer you on haha. ok probably wont do that but it would be cool.

Me Bryant and Ingmar went to Texas and the only thing worthwhile was Medieval Times.

If you go the weekend after, I'll go. It's the National Supra meet.

Go tonight, show up early. You'll get the earliest award and get a trophy like everyone else there does.
