Seems like i missed the PeakPostingPoint of this thread

I feel you on that brother!

I know you have a good understanding of the importance of material and non-material goods.

When I think of my family and my fiance, it feels like i have already accomplished all of my goals.

i think ppl misread the poll. the poll says how much you actually make. i know for a fact 20+% of ia isn't making over 100k. I feel i need to make at least 100k to support a family.

I am never envious of people having nice things like that. I often wonder what they did to achieve those things and what I can learn and apply in my own life.

My wife and I are about 20k a year from our goal. She is going back to school and I am about to finish so this will be attainable soon.

whoa now, I never said envy.. I'm very happy for those people and any chance I get to speak to someone in that position I admire what they have accomplished.

At the end of the day I still come home to more than what some people never accomplish in their lifetime and I am appreciative. At the same time I always push myself, so when I say "what is taking me so long" its the frustration of knowing I'm putting forth every effort to obtain that goal.. envy doesn't motivate me.

I was only speaking for myself. I know some people who are jealous of anyone who has anything nicer than they do. They feel that the nicer things in life should be handed to them while putting in absolutely no effort to obtain such things. Sorry for the confusion

I would say i stopped the Envy deal about 4 years ago or so because:

    1) You don't know what they did for that money.

    2) You don't know what responsibility comes with having that money.

    3) Rich people kill themselves, their spouses family members etc. etc. that alone proves that money DOES NOT = Happiness.

    4) Feel free to add guys

I want to make at least 60k a year. That's why I'm busting my ass at school, work, and my internship. If I make 60k and my husband makes more than that, we will be STRRRRRRAIGHT!!!!

I REALLY wanted to ask the same.. because from what I understand unless you're in an ELITE school or spending more than half a decade in school (which still isn't a guarantee) $100k a year out the box isn't likely.

Not that unlikely. Physicians assistants in anesthesiology come out of school making 130K+ with 6-8 weeks paid vacation. 4 years of school plus the 2 year PA program and you're done. Oh and half a decade in school is pretty common nowadays.

true, my wife is a getting ready to graduate pharmacy school she has gotten quite a few offers over 100k + yearly bonus/raise, vacation, 401k matching, great healthcare, etc... but after 8 years and PharmD title you better make that much. education for such jobs can run you easily 25k a year; my wife is at mercer and it is 28k a year x 4years... ya

actually there is no point to rushing to pay off school loans... if you have 100k in school loans you are looking at an approx 600 payment depending on the interest rates you got. if you die they don't transfer... take 30 years to pay them off b/c rushing to pay them off isn't going to gain you anything. you could die tomorrow and knowing you passed on enjoying life to be a jew would suck

Kind of unnecessary don't you think? I don't get why a person has to be ridiculed just because they're smart about their money.

A 4 year degree is standard which is what I was referring to. My point was banking on a $100k a year salary off of a 4 year degree is unlikely. I did not say there are not exceptions but for the most part.. not going to happen.

I didn't think I would have to break it down in laman terms but I did not say a degree is required to make $100k/yr. I know of a ton of entrepreneurs who never went to college who became multi millionaires. Again, my point is a 4 year degree is not a guaranteed ticket to a $100k+ salary.

100k a year outta college isn't impossible, it's just highly unlikely. I'm not finishing college because it's simply not for me. Right now I'm averaging $60k a year give/take(good months/bad months) but how I see it, if you don't think greatly, you'll never achieve anything great. My goal is to make $100k a year by the time I am 25. So I've gotta average $10k extra yearly until then..it's lofty but it's a goal non the less.

There is nothing wrong with making 30k or less, just do what makes you happy. I'm a work-a-holic at the age of 21...it's what actually makes me happy.

    Couldn't have said it better

My parents are living proof, niether went to college and they do great financially. And it definitely wasn't easy for them, but I honestly think in today's world without a degree it's harder to get ahead than it used to be. People look at you differently or judge you when you don't have a degree. But my attitude is, I'm doing what makes me happy..end of story, hopefully one day I'll be a millionaire, but for now paying the bills is less stressful than school

I just hate knowing that I owe someone money, one of the worst feelings in the world for me.

Tony- Most people don't finish a 4 year program in 4 years anymore. Thats why states like Florida require 9 summer credit hours to graduate.

it all goes on what you think "smart about their money" means... personally rushing to pay off loans of that amount is kinda crazy. unless you happen to have a extra 100k lying around.

Why not try to pay it off asap if you can afford to within reason? Whats the point of letting it sit around and keep incurring extra interest. Yea you could die tomorrow, and it wouldn't have mattered. Or you could die in 60 years and still be paying for that loan not being able to have a comfortable retirement.

there are a couple of good reasons...

    1) you could die and the entire time you passed on enjoying life you had to settle b/c of loans

    2) due to the low interest rates on such loans you can pay them off easily in 30 years much like having a 2nd mortgage and these loans will be basically nothing more then a new BMW payment

    3) if you put in 8+ years for school you need to be thinking about retirement b/c your getting started working around 30 years of age; anything that can be saved should, putting any extra money towards your 401k, ira, home, etc are way better investments then rushing off to pay off high school loans w/ low interest. even if you make 100+k a year you aren't going to pay off high loans like that in a short period of time; just isn't going to happen.

i would agree that if you have the money such as family member gave it to you, home equity, etc. that would be reason to pay it off. if you make 100k a year you are roughly bringing home $5500(base of 8k a month). it will still take a long time to pay off 100+k in school loans.

thinking semi-realistically i think 80k would be perfect for me to live comfortable. oh yea and on degrees it took me 4 years to get my associate degree in emergency management and it will take another year and a half to get my bachelors in it.

I didn't think I would have to break it down in laman terms but I did not say a degree is required to make $100k/yr. I know of a ton of entrepreneurs who never went to college who became multi millionaires. Again, my point is a 4 year degree is not a guaranteed ticket to a $100k+ salary.

voted on the wrong one. i thought the poll was how much you would like to make. right now i just started makin 1k a week after tax. so i probably make a little over 60k a year now. and im damn comfortable. still living at home with no billsfor the moment but i am looking to get my own house within the next month, but for me to be completly comfortable i would need about 80k a year.
