laptop help

the sound on my acer aspire p.o.s. laptop stopped working. we had trouble when we first got it with the wifi not working, but now that the wifi works, theres no sound. i have a feeling that my bois has sound and wifi set on the same IRQ instead of juggling them like it should. any help?

return it & buy an HP =)

check your sound card & make sure you've got all the right drivers installed.

plug in some headphones & see if it works through them -- if it does, your speakers are ****ed up.

if its new, it shouldnt do that unless its defective. hopefully its under warranty ??

no warranty and its about a year old i think...? idk its a hand me down from my stepmom/dad for school.

how do i go about checking my card?

control panel, system, hardware, device manager, and then check if its working properly by right clicking your sound driver

tried it through the sounds icon, it says its working properly but all of the volume adjustments are blocked, as are all of the buttons on the panel...

sounds like your sound card has gone bad.

well ****. im guess ints not gonna be cheap/easy to replace like a desktop...?

trust me, acer makes garbage computers. i had an acer aspire laptop, but i bought the warranty right? its worth it. because when mine refused to boot any longer after 1 year, i sent it back and they replaced the entire hard drive for free. guess what happened 2 years later? same thing, warranty was over. after i sent it back the first time, it developed a VERY noisy fan. extremely annoying and loud. and it would always randomly freeze, and lag, especially when running more than 1 application. i sold it to a guy on here for $50 and went out to best buy and bought what i have now:

pretty much the **** for about $800. doesnt lag **** up when i wanna listen to music and surf the internet and dl pr0n all at the same time.
