eh, for a launch i guess so but i still perfer RWD on anything that has corners in it. so my vote is RWD.
AWD is really good in corners too.
My car is stock with coil overs, and just plows threw twisties.
If you start to loss control, just step on the gas.
AWD.
After riding in a fast ass STi and he took a turn at like 60 and it just took it. Definately AWD > RWD.

Are you a 17 year old 240sx driver that thinks RWD is better because AWD can't drift?Originally Posted by Prince NISMO

gotcha.... ill take that as a no then.
From listening/reading what the experts say, AWD has more understeer than FWD.
Understeer is safer for the average person, go into a corner too fast, it pushes, and you can let off the gas to regain control.
RWD you go into a corner too fast, and the ass comes around. Which causes most people to over-correct and end up in a ditch. But if your a good driver RWD will be faster compared to AWD on the same car. Unless your in the snow or not on dry pavement.

dude have you ever played Forza, of course AWD![]()
real race cars arent awd for a reason.
Someone always says this. there are plenty of race cars that i consider to be "real race cars" it all depends what you intend to do with the car as to which drive configuration is best for your application. that is as ignorant as saying real drag cars dont use automatic transmissions.Originally Posted by Big Baller

I believe that reason is because that would make them heavier, not because rwd is so much better than awd in corners.
Nevermind I just re-read the post and realized I'm illiterate.Originally Posted by ironchef

audi are (watch speed you will see)
and they dominate but thats besides the point
honestly if you haev to ask that question, you havent been in an AWD that has a driver that knows how to use it. AWD is the best setup IMO for twisties, drag and all around snow fun. You cant do an On axis donught in a RWD.
Ill just leave out the part where I make fun of you this time.Originally Posted by tsispyder

You do realize that they have all kinds of restrictions and weight penaltys on cars in that series.Originally Posted by tsispyder

Yeah I have an awd car, and I have driven several on track, and not to be cocky but I'm pretty fucking good at it. Rwd is still faster in most conditions

AWD lets an average driver go faster on the track than they should be able to, Rwd requires more skill. Oh and I can come real close to doing an on axis donut in a rwd car
sheps not. only rau is, and hes a tube fram chassis
and also notice i said IMO

For most people AWD and FWD are easier to drive because to be honest you dont have to be able to drive as well when things get bad to get out of them. Also, AWD is alot easier to control with high HP numbers.

AWD is only better in some instances when it comes to launches. AWD cannot mimic the geometry of a rwd car. It forces the engine to sit higher and farther front of the car. When the engine is pushed back and sits lower it puts less torque on the front wheels, if that makes sense. The farther front the wheels are, the better. Cant do that with all wheel drive. Just look at the front over hang of an m3 and an evo. Understeer is gay and understeer sucks, the time it will take u to slow down, then regain speed to power out of the turn RWD is powering its way out. With the right driver RWD PWNS AWD anyday.
And thanks to subaru we don't have to worry about the car acting like a FWD car.Originally Posted by Marta Mike
However I will agree if you go hot into a corner AWD will understeer like a FWD car.
Unless...unless you put in a stiffer, rear sway bar and/or drop in some adjustable coilovers and make the rear more stiff than the front. You can make it neutral or set it more to oversteer. Stock, they push, I agree.Originally Posted by auxiliary

My engine is in the rear and is of the same setting as the GT2. The only difference: I have a front differential and driveshaft. I assure you that my car will cleanly power out of a turn more so than most RWD cars. I have a variable AWD setup that only applies power to the front when really needed.
Be careful with blanket statements. They don't always fit.

mike doesn't know anything about this.... his experience is on rails... and you know what i'm talking about mike.... MARTA rails are best for handling Hands DOWN!

eh u can never know what a car feels like, till uve been in one that handles on rails-lmao
you for to add.... nah mean in there... i'll forgive ya this once but don't let it happen again.... NAH mean?
I'd much rather have my car be AWD than RWD.. with that said RWD is VERY fun to drive though
I LOVE my AWD, but you have to remember that my setup is heavily RWD biased with as much as 95% going to the rear under perfect conditions.

it really depends on driver's choice.. each has its advantages/disadvantages, as far as drag racing goes.. i really do consider AWD superior.. think about it.. why run slicks at the track?.. for fucking traction.. it is NOT how your car would perform on the street unless you're a moron who uses them on the street in which case i hope im not anywhere near you when its raining. AWD is my choice.. and i have both rwd and awd.. i can get completely sideways at a very high speed and still have hope of straightening back out.

Yes AWD is the Shiat and I miss having it...
AWD is good. 1.7 60 foots are good. You can do it with RWD too but its harded for a street car to pull that shit off.
I can 2nd that with Ruiner... AWD systems ALL work differently. Don't ask me how I know Ruiner's car can get sideways easily.
