    Default another dead street racing

    Nov 5, 5:28 AM EST

Teen killed in car crash, police suspect street racing

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- A 16-year-old boy was killed in a car crash and authorities say street racing may have been involved.

The teen was a passenger in the Mazda 6 around 7 p.m. Sunday when the car, along with another car it may have been racing, lost control and hit two other vehicles.

Witnesses told police the Mazda and a Honda Accord were speeding on a road when a third car pulled out of a driveway.

The Honda clipped that vehicle and the impact caused the Honda to cross the median into oncoming traffic, Gwinnett County police Cpl. Illana Spellman said. The Mazda, which was traveling behind the Honda, swerved to avoid the first collision, also ended up in oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Kia Sportage, Spellman said.

The teen passenger in the Mazda died at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

The Mazda's driver was critically injured and was taken to a hospital, police said. The Honda's driver was not hurt, and the motorists of the other two cars were taken to a hospital for evaluation.

If it is found that the two cars were racing, their drivers each could face a felony charge of first-degree vehicular homicide, Spellman said.

Exactly. In this case(although I'm sure the deceased was NOT trying to stop the race), the driver should be in the passenger's shoes. RIP to passenger and I feel for the family. **** both drivers. And yes, sicstang, both drivers should have perished. Later, QD.

    16 is technically a minor isn't it?

Probably another case of an inexperienced noob overreacting to the sight of a collision...

What a couple of ****less assholes; everyone knows you street race directly into on coming traffic.

PS: His collars popped, and he's serious about it; A dead visual giveaway, that the drivers a tool.

Why is it street racing deaths almost always involve stock, and slow cars. You never seem to see a vette and a mustang........or a big turbo integra......its always an accord lx sedan and another japanese brand something. I guess it doesnt have to be fast if a bad driver is doing the navigating. And the driver never gets killed, seems unfair a passenger is always lost.

Only those involved know if the cars are stock or not. I don't think the media is concerned with what, if any, mods were done to the cars. Ya know. Later, QD.

Monica Kauffman: In other news, earlier this evening, a 1994 Honda Civic with a fully built motor and an intercooled Garret T3 turbo system was apparently racing a Mazda Millenia with stage 3 HKS coilovers and spring dampeners and an APC front-mounted air intake system. Both cars, which each had Tanabe Medallion catbacks and were pushing around 230 hp to the wheels, were traveling at a high rate of speed when.............

My point was you never see a crushed intercooler or 18" volks...its always bone stock car on hub caps and some popped collar spiked hair thug thinkin since its a Honda...its fast. Street racing only seems to be a local problem in the 17 sec community....fast cars generally go to the track in our area. (I know there are exceptions)

true, but it's not them who gets effect by this...it is us who have to do our daily business in the area get affected by it. Every fuucking time when i am in my GSR or WRX...i always manage to get a cop behind me....doing what? nothing but normal driving and minding my own business. They do the crime and all of us have to pay for it. I feel bad that a young kid lost his life over BS like this and have my prayers with his family, but i hope every time someone pulls stupid shiit likes this...they pay for their own mistakes....not by death, but something they'll remember rest of their lives. I am sure that kids classmater/family will think twice before pulling something like this again. I hope i don't see another "speed kills teen" article in newspaper for sometime now.
Awesome...before i could go on late night drives when i felt like it and now i'll have to worry about cops giving me **** in lville, s'ville area, but after typing all that....I don't really wanna complain i'd rather see harsh cops than dead teens.

Loganville also has tons of straight empty roads where you could run 200mph if you wanted to. Street racing out here isn't a big deal becuase there is a lack of cars once you really get into Walton County. And if there are cars all you and the person you are racing has to do is slow down to 45mph for a little bit or just pull to the side of the road until cars leave.

Lawrenceville is a different story. There are shopping centers, cars, people, red lights, turns, etc everywhere and they are all full of traffic.

Street Racing in Traffic = Bad
Street racing on empty roads = Go for it

Was this really a street racing accident or is it a suspected street racing accident? I caught the end of this story on the news last night and, from what I saw/heard, the incident was very sensationalized.

keep it on the track, and although its tragic, the passenger was equally dumb for allowing the driver to put his life in danger.

ok...accoring to the story I just read & vid I just saw on AJC.com, the accident was caused by a silver 96 Accord leaving a parking lot, which "clipped" the side of the grey 03 Accord, sending it into on coming traffic. The red Mazda 6 swerved to avoid the accident between the two Accords and crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting a Kia Sportage head on. The deceased 16yr old was a passenger in the Mazda 6.

It sounds to me like the the 96 Accord caused this accident if it "clipped" the 03 Accord while leaving a parking lot. If that is the case, is it fair to say this accident was caused by street racing? Of course you can say that this wouldn't have happened if the two cars weren't racing but, that's not necessarly true. If this accident was caused by the 96 Accord "clipping" the 03 Accord, the same series of events could have taken place if these cars weren't racing. I'm sure speed could have played a factor in keeping the cars from going into oncoming traffic but, the same result could possibly occur if the cars suspected of racing were traveling at 45-50mph.

I guess I'm sort of playing devil's advocate here but, it's primarily due to the manner in which I heard the story last night. The story I heard/saw was reported in a manner that left me thinking two cars were racing & they hit two other vehicles. Like I said in my earlier post, what I heard/saw last night was very sensationalized & I caught the tail end of the story. Being that the evening news fights for ratings like any other show, I couldn't tell if they were using the term street racing just to grab your attention or if this accident was truly the result of street racing
